The Reolart sales chief and some film buyers were guests of Don Swartz, Realart area distributor, at a luncheon meeting here. WILLIAM ("SNAKE") RICHARDSON, president Astor Pictures of Georgia, has checked in at his office after visiting in Florida. JACK JACKSON, special rep. for Sack Amusement Enterprises, Dallas, was a visitor to the Atlanta branch. MAJ. GEN. EDWARD P. "TED" CURTIS, Eastman Kodak vice-president, is a New York visitor. JIM TOBIN, manager of the Warner Theater, Bridgeport, Conn., is on a vacation in New Hampshire. Lefkowich Retains V. C. Golf Championship Cup Cleveland, O. — Variety Club golf tournament drew a heavy attendance of 250 at the Pine Ridge Country Club where Bert Lefkowich of the Community Circuit retained the championship cup with a low score of 79. Bob Snyder, Realart franchise owner, won the high score distinction. Other winners were "Doc" Elliott, Warner Lima city manager, guests low score; Gilbert Lefton and Bill Bokar tied for low net; Gilbert Lefton and "Doc" Elliott tied for most Birdies; "Doc" Elliott for most 3's; Ray Essick for most 7's. Eddie Johnson, Louis Gross and their sons for low foursome; Bernie Rubin and Sam Abrams tied for Blind Bogey. Nat Wolf, Warner Ohio zone manager, was general chairman. Brisson Hints at Indies Joint European Venture Although no deal has been set, Frederick Brisson, head of Independent Artists, hinted yesterday that other indie producers might join him in making films in Europe, as a means of using up frozen funds. Despite a heavy backlog in Britain and a 15-pix quota per company regulation in France, Brisson reported he made some very favorable deals on his company's maiden effort, "The Velvet Touch." In his two-month trip abroad, Brisson observed that film biz in the U. K. was still good. Independent Artists' next picture will be a comedy based upon an original by Dudley Nichols. Also on the production agenda is "King of Diamonds," life story of Barney Barnato. Fieldman Going on Ovm Atlanta — Joe Fieldman, special rep., Screen Guild of Georgia, has resigned to enter business for himself. Blumenstock to Texas on WB's 4-City Premiere Mort Blumenstock, Warners vicepresident in charge of advertising and publicity, planes out to San Antonio today to participate in the activities set for four-city regional world premiere of "Two Guys From Texas" in the Southwest area. The first of these engagements takes place at the Majestic Theater, San Antonio tomorrow with the ceremonies highlighted by p.a.'s of Dennis Morgan, Jack Carson, Dorothy Malone — to be followed on Thursday with the premiere at the Majestic Theater, Houston, on Friday at the Majestic Theater, Dallas and on Saturday at the Warner Theater, Oklahoma City. Blumenstock will attend all openings. Polio Epidemic Closes Asheville's Theaters Asheville, N. C— With the state count of polio cases now over 1,000, health officials in this resort city have banned public gatherings. Only church services are exempt from the order given by the Municipal Health Commission which has shut down theaters. He thought he will be able to announce the schedule of hearings later this week. Staff Director Willis Ballinger thought "two or three top production officials" may also come before the Committee this Fall — even though Los Angeles hearings are definitely off" until after the end of this year. It was believed that Ballinger referred to SIMPP officials, who are known to have been working with the committee. He pointed out that Texas is a good deal closer than Washington to Hollywood, implying that independent producers might appear in Texas in order to eliminate a trip all the way to Washington. Hold Funeral Services Today for A. J. Kearney Funeral services for Alexander James Kearney, 69, assistant general manager of the Shea Circuit, who died Friday at Medical Arts Center Hospital, will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Blessed Sacrament Church, 152 W. 71st St., with interment to be made at Ludlow, Vt. Kearney joined the Shea organization in 1901, when it was a vaudeville circuit, and was manager for a number of its performers, including the late Will Rogers, Irene Castle and the late Vernon Castle. After vaudeville gave way to motion pictures he was placed in charge of film bookings and labor relations. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sara B. Kearney, a brother and three sis Partlow, Andrews Leave "U" for Drive-in Field Atlanta — Jim Partlow, branch manager of Universal-International, and Leonard Andrews, home office rep., both have resigned and will go into the Drive-In theater field in Florida.
