ELYA LOPERT, foreign film distributor, sails aboard the S. S. America, Aug. 24, for a sixweek tour of Italy and France. He will join Roberto Rossellini at the Venice Film Festival where the latter's "Amore" will be submitted in the competition.
To Seek Maximum Prices For "Babe Ruth Story"
Chicago — Maximum rentals will be sought by Allied Artists-Monogram in the best houses in all key cities for "The Babe Ruth Story," it was stated by Maurice Goldstein, sales manager, at a meeting of franchise holders and exchange managers in the Drake Hotel at the week-end. Top price admissions will be asked. Pic will open locally Sept. 2 at the State Lake. Larry Stein has been engaged for special preem exploitation.
Goldstein disclosed the film had been sold to all Warner and RKO key spots. He reported record business in the New York, Baltimore and Atlantic City runs. Maurice Maurer, Astor, New York, director, was a guest at lunch. He is en route West. Goldstein left for New York Sunday night.

$75,000 Cleveland Drive For Rogers Hospital
Cleveland, O. — Plans to launch a $75,000 area drive for the Will Rogers Memorial Hospital will be announced by local committee chairman I. J. Schmertz at an industry luncheon meeting on Monday, Aug. 16 in the Cleveland Motion Picture Exhibitors Association Club Rooms, to which all theater owners and their managers are invited. Mayor Thomas A. Burke, Law Director Lee C. Howley, Harland Holmden of lATSE and William Finnegan of the Stage Hands Union have accepted invitations to attend.
Wallis Buys "Irma' Air Show for Pix
Hal Wallis has bought the film rights to the CBS-owTied radio show, "My Friend, Irma," which is sponsored by Lever Bros, on its Swan Soap program. Radio program returns to the air Aug. 30, and Monday nights thereafter from 10 to 10:30. "Irma" is the second important radio property acquired by Wallis for filming. The first, "Sorry, Wrong Number," will be released nationally next month.
