Buchanan Co. tips Montgelas to Prexy Rudolph Montgelas, formerly vicepresident of Buchanan & Co., has been elected president of the advertising agency, John Hertz, Jr., chairman, announced. Action was taken at a recent meeting of the board of directors. Buchanan's new prexy, who succeeds T. S. Buchanan, resigned, for the past eight years has been the agency's executive on the Paramount account. Plans for the final 1948 quarters and the first nine months of 1949 will be discussed at the meeting, also to be highlighted by details of 20th-Fox's global production plans, a visit to the studio, and screenings of important product. Decision to produce on a global scale was first revealed by Spyros P. Skouras, president, at the company's Canadian sales convention in July. At that time he announced that the company was setting out to strengthen its position with respect to blocked foreign funds by producing pictures abroad in suitable locales, but for world-wdde distribution. Zanuck Dinner Speaker Since then, Darryl F. Zanuck, vicepresident in charge of production, traveled to Europe and spent six weeks visiting England, Italy and West Coast Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — Thirty pictures are scheduled for 1948-49 production, Darryl F. Zanuck, 20th-Fox veepee, announced on his return from Europe. Six of the thirty will be filmed in Europe. France for the purpose of surveying and establishing this new policy. Next Thursday when the conference delegates visit the studio Zanuck will make the principal address at a dinner to be iield in the studio's Cafe de Paris. He will outline the company's expanded international production plans in detail and his address will climax the four-day conference. When it was decided that there would be no formal speeches at the business meetings Smith sent questionnaires listing the principal topics for discussions to the delegates so they could be prepared to discuss them in detail. In the discussions, Skouras, Smith and Williana C. Gehring, assistant general sales manager, will serve as moderators. Opening day will be devoted to general topics in open forum discussions and on Wednesday Smith will review the pictures that are scheduled for release during the next 12 months. Advertising, publicity and exploitation plans for these productions also will be outlined at this session by Charles Schlaifer, director of advertising and exploitation. Will See Four New Pix During the four-day meeting the delegates will be shown "Yellow Sky," "Unfaithfully Yours," "When My Baby Smiles At Me" and "The Snake Pit." On their visit to the studio next Thursday they will see two pictures in production, "Mother Is a Freshman" and "Down to the Sea in Ships." Conference sessions next Friday will be given over to individual branch and divisional meetings to be conducted by Smith and Gehring and the five divisional sales managers. Also Schlaifer will hold individual conferences with his field exploitation staff. That night the delegates will be the guests of Smith at a dinner and party at the Los Angeles Coliseum to watch "Gorgeous Georges" wrestle.
