BLAIR, "DUBE WELCH, who authored all -^ of the Nick and Tony comedies made here by Lou Brock, has not yet recovered from the shock of seeing "Moonlight and Monkey Business," the first of the series to be made in Hollywood, pictured exactly as he wrote it, lie having expected the Hollywood gag men to change it beyond recognition. Fred Ryle, make-up artist at the Fox-Hearst studios here, was called upon to exhibit his skill in character building when a test was made of Fritz Leiber's entire Shakespearean company, at the request of Ha ilea Clarke. Among the characters portrayed were Richard III, Hamlet and Othello. Helen Twelvetrees' mother, Mrs. II. Jurgens of Brooklyn, saw a motion picture made for the first time when she visited the Warner Vitaphone studio last week during the making of a comedy featuring Mr. and Mrs. Jack Norwbrth. The resemblance of Mrs. Jurgens to her famous daughter is striking. The title of the Vitaphone one reel musical comedy starring Jack Hazzard has been changed from "Hot Stuff" to "Playing With Fire." The film is now being edited for early release. Attilio Marchetti, who formerly was in charge of synchronizing the Pathe Audio Review, has been associated with such noted conductors as Toscannini, Richard Strauss, Gustave Moller and Stokowski. He is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Bologna. Although people who stutter and stammer in real life seldom arouse laughter, on the screen it is another matter. For this reason, Vitaphone has cornered the market on stuttering comedians, having used, at various times, Tom Dugan, Joe Frisco, Joe Penner and Charles Lawrence. The latter has just completed "The Substitute," a burlesque on radio announcers. The latest addition to the list of Paramount's "Mr. and Mrs." Combinations is Beatrice Ames, wife of Donald Ogden Stewart, who has been given a small role in "New York Lady," written by the latter. Both previously acted together in the stage version of "Holiday." TENNESSEE Changes in Ownership Dayton — Lyric, sold to P. C. Tallent by M. M. Norton; Memphis — Newman, sold to N.
