Brulatour, Inc. 100% VanBeuren Shorts Program Will Open Trans-Lux Bway House An all-Van Beuren short subject program will be the opening presentation at the Trans-Lux Variety theater Friday night. The bill is composed of a new Aesop Fable, "Cinderella Blues"; two Grantland Rice Sportlights, "Crystal Champions" and "A Feline Fighter"; a Vagabond Adventure, "A Tale of Tutuila" and a dance classic in color, featuring Josephine McLane. Both Sportlights are re-issues, "Crystal Champions" having been released June, 1929, and "A Feline Fighter" March, 1930. The latter short was given a three week run at the Globe, a year ago, at which time a real wild-cat in a cage was placed in the theater lobby as a ballyhoo. Merian Cooper Dickering On Picture for Paramount Merian Cooper, co-producer of "Chang" and "Grass" with Ernest Schoedsack, is conferring with Jesse L. Lasky concerning a proposition to make another out-of-the-beatentrack picture. Discussions are being held in New York. Cooper has been inactive in production the past two years. THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — A board of governors has been appointed by the newly organized Association of Motion Picture Artists' Representatives and Managers. It includes Phil Berg, Freddie Fralick, George Frank, Grant Dolge, Morris Small. Harry Weber, Ruth Collier, Frank Jovce and Eddie Silton. Publix Closes Des Moines Silent Des Moines — The Palace has closed for the summer. It is the last silent house here. Publix. through the District Manager. Jack H. Roth, announced that the house, if it reopens in the fall, will have sound equipment. Sunday Law Repealed Sac City, la. — The Sac City council has repealed its ordinance prohibiting Sunday shows. THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — Ruth Selwyn will take official orders from her husband when she appears in "Lullaby," the M-G-M screen version of Edward Knoblock's stage play. Hubby Edgar Selwyn is to direct the picture. Tobis' "Le Million" For Little Carnegie "Le Million," Rene Clair's latest production and the first foreign feature to be imported by the newly formed Tobis American Co., will open at Leo Brecher's Little Carnegie Playhouse on May 20. Milton Diamond, in charge of the Tobis American interests, has abandoned the Tobis plans for a permanent Broadway house and instead will book his product into the Little Carnegie and the Warner, which inaugurates a foreign production policy tomorrow. Diamond has also ceased operations in connection with securing a coast-to-coast circuit of 200 theaters for exclusive Tobis foreign productions. The Film Daily learns. Gulfport, Miss. — The Mississippi division of the International Alliance of Theatrical Staee Employees and Motion Picture Machine Operators will convene here July 19-20 for their annual convention. Blue Law Fight in Cleveland Cleveland — Fight on the Sunday blue laws has been renewed in Cleveland Heights with the circulation of netitions to have the council revoke the old ordinance. H. L. Beach Elected Councilman Oakland, Cal. — Herbert L. Beach, president of the Beach-Krahn Amusement Co., has been elected to the office of councilman, District No. 1, Oakland. New W. E. Director David Levinger, engineer of manufacture for Western Electric, yesterday was elected a director of the company.
