Ilr is now in New York working on an original for the screen. Under Ihe influence of the Fiveyear and the Five-Day plans already propounded, Bert Adler of the Fox ["heaters and Fanchon & Marco organizations has mapped out the following Five-Month plan on exploitation for tin benefit of the industry: Bert: "Pictures will be sold to the theaters the coming season on the percentage basis (or percentage-overage basis) more tban ever before. Exhibitors as a rule are not equipped to thoroughly exploit tbe pictures they play. But picture MUST be thoroughly exploited to get the last dollar out of them at the box office. (If you owned a picture, would you expect more than 20 per cent of the gross if improperly exploited, or 15 per cent if properly exploited?) "Therefore it is suggested that every producer-distributor give exploitation a real trial, discarding the present hit-or-miss method of occasionally assigning exploitation men to so-called occasional 'special' pictures. A real trial means an exploitation man in every exchange to give continued help to the company's customers and GET THK PRODUCER FULL VALUE OX HIS PERCH XT AGE CONTRACTS. "Start this intensive exploitation Aug. 1 (which is approximately a month before 'regular season' opens), and end it Dec. 31 — five months. Check on the results, and if beneficial in not only increasing producer's percentage returns (and so economically justifying the plan) but in helping win public attention back to motion pictures, make the plan permanent. Good men can be had to operate such plan, as never before, due to recent depression which threw nany good men out. Incidentally the industry will be doing its share to revive employment, because every man put back to work is a clear gain." Honoring Bill Saal At Dinner on July 8 William Saal, who is leaving Publix after a long association to become one of the chiefs of Tiffany l'roduc ions, will be honored at a testimonial dinner July 8 at the Hotel Astor.
