Lining Up Big Name Cast For 1933 "Gold Diggers"
West Coast Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — An all-star cast from both Hollywood and New York will be chosen by Director Roy Del Ruth for the modern edition of First National's "Gold Diggers of Broadway," which Darryl F. Zanuck has announced will be refilmed as "The Gold Dieters of 1932." Del Ruth also directed the original talker version, which was one of the first big sound successes.
RIALTO BACK TO GRIND
Cecil B. De Mille's "The Sign of the Cross" moves tomorrow from ;the Rialto to the Criterion to continue its extended run indefinitely. Paramount's "Island of Lost Souls" opens tomorrow at the Rialto, with [the house returning to a continuous policy.
BENNETT FILM FOR PALACE
Opening screen attraction under its new vaudeville and film policy, starting Jan. 7 at the Palace, has been changed to "Rock-A-Bye," starring Constance Bennett.
CANTOR-JESSEL AT PARA.
Eddie Cantor and George Jessel will head the new show starting Friday at the New York Paramount. The screen attraction will be "The Billion Dollar Scandal."
KRAKATAU VOLCANO IN SHORT
Educational has purchased a tworeeler titled "Krakatau," in which the submerged volcano located between the islands of Java and Sumatra, is shown in action.
VITA. FILMING WINTER SPORTS
An entire production crew has been dispatched to Lake Placid by Vitaphone to film the more exciting of the resort's winter sports for a special short.
5 Warner-F. N. Releases Scheduled for January
Warners will nationally release three new pictures in January. The first on the schedule is William Powell's "Lawyer Man," now playing a pre-release engagement at the Hollywood theater, on which the national release date is Jan. 7. "Parachute Jumper," starring Douglas Fairbanks. Jr., will be released on the 28th, as well "Hard to Handle," the new James Cagney picture.
In addition to these Warner releases. First National will roadshow "20 000 Years in Sing Sing" begin"^g this month, and will release "Frisco Jenny," starring Ruth Chatterton, on the 14th.
"KID" FOR RIVOLI IN FEB.
Eddie Cantor in "The Kid from Spain," which ends its two-a-day run at the Palace on Friday night, will return to Broadway for a popular price run at the Rivoli, simultaneously with its showing in 150 houses throughout the country.
