Into the spectacular animal drama has been woven a love story with Jean Parker and Russell Hardie playing the leads. John Considine is the producer. T T T The Bond Bread radio program, featuring Frank Crumit, Julia Sanderson and Jack Shilkret and his orchestra, devoted its broadcast yesterday to the compositions of Harry Warren. His song hits from "Dames," Warner picture, was spotlighted on the program. ▼ T T "Happy Harmonies" has been selected as the title for the series of Technicolor animated cartoons which Metro is scheduling for release during the coming season. Thirteen of the cartoon subjects are to be produced within a year by HarmanIsing, all in natural color with musical backgrounds. The first two, "The Discontented Canary" and "A Tale of the Vienna Woods," have been completed. T T T Orry-Kelly, Warner First National fashion creator, designed 30 costumes for Jean Muir's work in "Desirable." Verree Teasdale, also a principal in the picture, was the subject of 20 sketches. T T T "Donkey Baseball," popular sport recently originated in California and spreading rapidly throughout the country, is to be the subject of Pete Smith's forthcoming Metro oddity. T t ▼ Chic Sales is to bring another of his lovable characters to the screen in "Windy," a Metro short in which the inimitable delineator of bucolic roles portrays an old desert prospector. t r T Ann Sothern and Fay Wray, Columbia contract players, have had their contracts extended. T T T William Haines, who played the male lead in Mascot's "Young and Beautiful," has been signed by Nat Levine, president of Mascot, for the lead in "The Marines Have Landed." AS SEEN BY THE PRESS AGENT "Nils Asther held up production on 'Lovetime' for several minutes at the Fox studios when a collar button fell under a bureau in his dressing room." —FOX. Henry B. Walthall, who has just completed a featured role in the new Will Rogers picture, "Judge Priest," has been signed to a long term contract by Fox. T T T Paul Muni will have two leading women in his next Warner picture, "Border Town," which is about to start production. The roles will be played by Bette Davis and Margaret Lindsay. Lyle Talbot will also be in the cast. Archie Mayo will direct. T T T Arthur Byron was signed last week by Columbia for "That's Gratitude." T T T Het Manheim has joined the Mascot Pictures' writing staff. He has been assigned to work on the Ken Maynard serial. T ▼ T Peggy Fears, whose first assignment with Fox is a leading role in "Lottery Lover," with "Pat" Paterson, Lew Ayres, Ned Sparks and Sterling Holloway, is the possessor of a contract calling for her services as writer, producer, director and actress. T T T Margaret Mann has been assigned to the cast of Fox's "Charlie Chan in London," the new Warner Oland mystery now in work with Drue Leyton, Mona Barrie, Raymond Milland, Alan Mowbray, Madge Bellamy, Paul England, Perry Ivins and others. T T T Kubec Glasmon, co-author of "Public Enemy" and "Little Caesar," is now writing for Columbia. He's going to do a story called "Spring 3100." T T T Monogram may make a Spanish version of the Tristram Tupper story, "Murder in the Stratosphere," soon to go into production. T T T "What New York Wants" is the tentative title of the musical picture in which Joe E. Brown will star for First National. T T T Wini Shaw, stage and radio headliner, will appear in Warner's "Sweet Adeline." T T T Gertrude Messinger has been signed by RKO for "Ann of Green Gables," which has gone in work with George Nicholls, Jr., directing. T T T Walter Connolly has joined the cast of Columbia's "Orchids and Onions," temporary title of the Carole Lombard vehicle. May Robson also is in it. ▲ ▲ A His work in "I Sell Anything" completed, Pat O'Brien has returned to the cast of "Flirtation Walk," the First National picture in which Dick Powell. Ruby Keeler and he have the leading roles. A newcomer to the cast is Frederick Burton. NEWS OF THE DAY New Orleans — All claims, includthose of bondholders, against Saenger Theaters and Saenger Realty must be filed by Oct. 10, according to an order by Federal Judge Wayne Borah. The order may be modified at the court's discretion. Louisville — The Brown theater has initiated a new policy of first-run pictures only with a preview Thursday nights. Louisville — George Hunt is the new manager of Loew's theater. He formerly was on the staff of the St. Francis, San Francisco, and with Switow's Kentucky theater in Lexington. Milwaukee — The city's most recent film row convalescent is Etta Weisner, whose Shorewood and Downer theaters revert to Wisconsin Amusement Enterprises on Sept. 1 and who is taking a rest in a local hospital under doctor's care. It is reported he will continue with the new operators in the management of the theaters. Louisville — The Studio theater is closed temporarily for repairs. The National is closed for the summer. Gibsonville, N. C — The Gibsc ville theater has been destroyed i fire. R. E. Gibbs, operator of tj theater, was badly burned and is j the hospital. Palatka, Fla.— The Howell, an J. Sparks house, is being closed f six weeks to permit remodelin. which includes the erection of a ba cony. Charlotte, N.
