If he likes the work, he may accept a long-term contract, it is said. T T T Roy Del Ruth, who completed directing Samuel Goldwyn's production of "Kid Millions" in unusually good time, says he didn't see Goldwyn once since the day he started actual filming. Goldwyn is reported to be enthusiastic about the picture. » T T Gilbert Roland has been signed to a long-term contract by Fox. He is now in "Elinor Norton." ▼ T T RKO Radio will use the Burlington Streamline Zephyr train in "Silver Streak." » T » Wallace Smith has been signed to adapt Vina Delmar's novel, "The Day Never Came," for Fox. Erich Pommer is to direct. AAA Tammany Young, without whom no W. C. Fields picture is complete, has been assigned his customary role in the Paramount comedian's next picture, "Back Porch." Production starts next Tuesday, with Norman McLeod directing. AAA "Menace" has been definitely set as the title for the original Philip MacDonald story which Paramount is making with Gertrude Michel, Paul Cavanagh, Henrietta Crosman and John Lodge in the leading roles. Ralph Murphy is directing from a screen play by Anthony Veiller. T T T Wallis Clark and Jimmie Butler are the latest additions to the cast of Columbia's "I'll Fix It," starring Jack Holt, now in work under the direction of Roy William Neill. Mona Barrie and Winnie Lightner have the feminine leads, with Nedda Harrigan and Virginia Pine in featured roles. T T T For his excellent miming in "Kentucky Kernels," WheelerWoolsey feature currently in production at RKO Radio, the studio has just signed Willie Best, Negro comedian, to a long term contract. From now on he will be known to filmdom as Sleep-'n'-Eat. T T T With its second serial, "Tailspin Tommy," well under way, Universal is developing its third and its fourth. Already Ancil Friedberger and Horace McCoy have been assigned to the story of "The Call of the Savage." The first serial was Buck Jones in "The Red Rider." v T T Among players who will support Mady Christians in her first M-G-M picture, "Wicked Woman," which goes in work this week, are Jean Parker, Zelda Sears, Betty Furness, William Henry and Sterling Holloway. Florence Ryerson, Maurice Watkins and Zelda Sears joined in the adaptation. T T T Jack Rawlins will direct "The Criminal Within" under the supervision of Sid Rogell for Columbia. Bradford, Pa. — The modernized Shea's Bradford has reopened. Alliance, O. — The Rex, reopened recently, is dark again, following a dispute with operators. Tampa, Fla. — Casino Amusement Enterprises, Tampa, was robbed of $3,000 in jewelry and $2,000 in cash when its safe was hauled away. Shell City, Mo. — The Photoplay has been opened by M. O. Haddox. Ash Grove, Mo. — The Melba has been opened by Ralph Hurst. Coldwater, Mich. — Arthur Early is preparing to open the new Crystal theater. San Antonio Gossip San Antonio — Jack Howard Britton has been appointed cameraman for Hearst Metrotone Newsreel covering this section. M. V. Wilson, secretary of National Pictures, is on vacation in Houston. W. L. Kessinger of the Interstate Circuit has returned from the Gulf Coast. South Bend Securities Filed Washington Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Washington — The Theater Corp. of South Bend Bondholders' Protective Committee, Cleveland, has filed for registration under the Securities Act a bond issue dated Aug. 15. 1930, in an original amount of $875,000, now reduced to $850,000 and having a present market value of $212,500. Certificates of deposit are to be issued by the Committee, but no plan of reorganization will be presented until all of the bonds have been deposited. Members of the committee are J. F. Moriarty, Cleveland ; C. R. Backus, Columbus, and W. W. Austin, South Bend, Ind. Get Films at 70 Below Chicago — Using Eyemo and Filmo cameras from Bell & Howell, the Byrd Antarctic Expedition has made pictures in a temperature of 70 below, according to a radiogram from Commander Noville. Fifth Week for Cagney Revival "Public Enemy," with James Cagney, has gone into the fifth week of its revival at the Globe. Cincinnati Briefs Cincinnati — Arthur Frudenfeld of RKO is back from a week's trip to Chicago. Charle> Barron is here to exploit "Count of Monte Cristo", United Artists release. Chester Martin is remodeling the Orpheum at Peebles Corner, with likelihood of a night club being installed on the roof. Harris Dudelson of United Artists recently lost his father, while George Shanbaugh of Monogram is mourning the death of his mother. MacDonald Back from Survey Karl MacDonald, Warner Bros. foreign department executive, returns to New York today on the Santa Barbara after checking exchange operations in South America. Sam E. Morris, vice-president, is slated to sail Oct. 10 on the Manhattan for a survey of conditions in Europe. Tri-State Exhibit for More Fairs Des Moines — "Tristaco," an exhibit by the Tri-State Theaters Corp. at the Iowa State Fair proved so successful that a number of county fairs through the states in which the theaters are located, are planning to duplicate the stunt. Famous Players Fan Mag Famous Players Canadian circuit is now issuing a fan magazine, which, it is estimated, reaches 400,000 patrons. Gene Curtis is editing the publication.
