Earnings Estimated At One Dollar a Share Paramount Publix earnings for the year are expected to be between 90 cents and $1 a share, according to Wall Street estimates yesterday. Michigan Allied to Elect Officers will be elected by Allied Theaters of Michigan at its annual convention at the Hotel Durant Flint, Nov. 7 and 8. Ray Branch is currently president of the association. Abram F. Myers and Sidney E. Samuelson, chairman of the Allied board and president, respectively, will attend and speak. Bruce Brings Four Prints Robert C. Bruce has returned from the coast with final prints of "Irish Melody," "Italian Caprice," "Mediterranean Songs" and "Barcarolle," newest issues in the series of three-color Technicolor "Musical Moods" filmed in Europe for Audio Productions, Inc. These shorts will be part of the series of 18 now being released in the U. S. through First Division Exchanges. Supreme Signs Contest Winner West Coast Bureau of THE FILM DAILY Hollywood — David Horsley, recently chosen as the New Deal Adonis in a nationwide contest sponsored by RKO, has signed a twoyear starring contract with Supreme Pictures Corp., agreeing to make 16 features, or eight a year. Gaumont-British Group Sailing Mark Ostrer, chairman of the board of Gaumont-British Pictures, Jeffrey Bernerd, general manager, Michael Balcon, executive production director, Nova Pilbeam, 14year-old star of "Little Friend," and Jack Hulbert, G.-B. musical comedy star, sail for England tomorrow on the Aquitania. Mono. Contest Winner Westbound Anne Johnston, 16-year-old high school girl of Jackson Heights, L. I., one of the five winners in the national Monogram-Agfa-Ansco content, leaves this week for the coast to start her film career in "Women Must Dress." Al Sherman Going to London Al Sherman, director of advertising and publicity for Mascot Pictures, has resigned, effective Nov. 1, Sherman plans to leave early in November for London. Trend Away from Novels Is Predicted by Balcon Toronto — Adapting of novels to the screen will soon be swept aside, and films of the future will be written by men whose language is the screen, not the stage or novel, said Michael Balcon, Gaumont-British production chief, while on a visit here. Balcon said G-B will avoic cycles and is not touching any Dickens material at present because too many others are doing it. Loew Pfd. Jumps 4 Points Loew preferred stock jumped 4 points to a new high for the year at 97% on a single sale yesterday. Mississippi Unit Meeting Jackson, Miss. — Meeting of the Mississippi Independent Motion Picture Ass'n, formed last June, is scheduled to take place here Oct 28-29. Donat in 2 for Gaumont-British Robert Donat, of 20th Century': "The Count of Monte Cristo" ha.' been signed by Gaumont-British t( make two pictures in England. First is "39 Steps," based on Johr Buchan's spy story, which Alfred Hitchcock is directing. The second story remains to be selected. Donat is now in England. "Autumn Crocus" for Carnegie "Autumn Crocus," based on the stage hit and filmed by Basil Dean in England with Ivor Novello and Fay Compton in the leading roles, will be the initial offering at the Little Carnegie Playhouse when it opens its fall season on Wednesday under the joint direction of Henry Siegel and Leo Brecher. Hoffman Closing Foreign Deal M. H. Hoffman, president of Liberty Pictures, arrived in New York yesterday to close a deal for foreign distribution and to confer with Budd Rogers and his associates on stories for Liberty's next four pictures. First one of this group will probably be "Sweepstake Annie," adapted by Scott Darling from a story by Evelyn Law. 2 G-B Films in Philly Philadelphia — Gaumont-British has two pictures running simultaneously here. "Power" is at the Locust, which discarded its two-aday policy for this engagement, and "Chu Chin Chow" is at the Fox. Hungarian Musical Holds Over "Mindent a Noert!" ("Everything for the Woman"), Hungarian musical comedy distributed by Danubia Film, is being held for a second week at the Tobis Theater.
