At S.M.P.E. Meeting
Reservations made in connection with the fall convention of the S. M. P. E. at the Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, Oct. 21-24 indicate that more than 350 of the industry's leading engineers will be present. About 50 technical papers will be presented.
Frank Buck at Ampa
Frank Buck will be the main speaker at tomorrow's A.M.P.A. luncheon in Jack Dempsey's restaurant. Film critics who alreadv have accepted invitations to the meeting include Louella Parsons, Regina Crewe, Thornton Delehanty, Irene Thirer, Gerald Breitigam, Kate Cameron, Wanda Hale, Marguerite Tazelaar and Bland Johaneson. Acceptances from the other local critics also are expected by Prexy Gordon White.
Cartoon Third Dimension Perfected by Fleischer
Max Fleischer, producer of '"Popeye" and "Betty Boop" cartoons for Paramount, announces he has perfected a third dimension process for cartoons. He expects to apply the new development to "Sinbad", tworeel color film now in preparation.

Roxy-Philco Tie-Up on "Tunnel"
An extensive tie-up between the Roxy and Philco Radio in connection with the premiere of GB's "Transatlantic Tunnel" late this month is announced by Howard S. Cullman. The deal includes radio tieup, window displays in the 1500 metropolitan stores and cooperative newspaper advertising with special trailer and display space in the Roxy.
Selznick Adds to Staff

Selznick, whose Selznick International Pictures will produce for United Artists, has appointed Val Lewton story editor and Joseph Shea press representative here. Kay Brown will represent Selznick in New York. Hugh Walpole and Richard Schayer will do the screenplay of "Little Lord Fauntleroy" for Selznick.

Barnett Making Foreign Tour
George Barnett, president of Modern Film Sales, sails Oct. 31 from San Francisco for Japan on the first leg of a six-month business trip during which he will visit China, Japan, Manila, Dutch East Indies, India, North Africa, France and England. Barnett will try to arrange distribution for three series of shorts and a large number of features.

Pittsbugh — A. L. Peretta, western Pennsylvania showman, is forming a "high school circuit," operating with portable equipment in schools here and in neighboring territory. Such towns as Bessemer, New Wilmington and West Middlesex will be included.

William Brandt of the Brandt circuit was taken to the hospital yesterday to undergo an operation following a recent attack of pneumonia.
Realistic Cast with Street Singer
London — Arthur Tracy, who plays the role of a Street Singer, as he is professionally known, in the British & Dominions production of "Street Singer's Serenade," will have in his supporting cast Frank Boor, manager of the London Hippodrome, MacQueen Pope, press agent, and Ralph Reader, dance director, all playing their real life roles in the film.
Denver — "The Mesa Movie Revue," a four-page weekly newspaper, is being published by the Mesa theater, a Westland Theaters house, in Grand Junction, Co. B. V. Warren, manager for Westland Grand Junction, started the paper when the town's newspaper, which is owned by an opposition theater, gave the theater bad breaks on their ads. The sheet contains ads from the city's merchants, large ads and film writeups for the theater, a continued novel, etc.
