Goldreyer Erich Pommer to Produce At New Denham Studios Before sailing for England this week, Erich Pommer, who arrives in New York on Tuesday aboard the Aquitania, concluded arrangements with Alexander Korda, who has him under contract, whereby the director will produce at the new Denham Studios of London Films for United Artists release. San Francisco Squibs San Francisco — George M. Mann, president of Redwood Theaters, Inc., and his wife and family have left on a four-month cruise which will take them to the South Seas, Australia and the Orient. J. A. Harvey, Jr., has opened his remodeled and reseated Victory Theater in San Jose. Robert Bursely is manager of the house. Charles Powers, Fox Portland manager, was in town recently. Loew's Warfield sold tickets to the special midnight New Year's performance from an extra ticket box erected in the lobby for that purpose. The plan proved very successful. Clair Bringing "Ghost" Print Rene Clair, who arrives in New York next Thursday from England, will bring in a print of "The Ghost Goes West", Robert Donat vehicle which he directed for Alexander Korda. The picture, a United Artists release, opens Jan. 10 at the Rivoli. Marchetti Seeks Play for Olivier A suitable play in which to star Laurence Olivier on Broadway is being sought by Roger Marchetti, attorney and counseler for film folk. Marchetti, leaving New York today for his Los Angeles headquarters, is just back from London, where he went to sign Olivier, who is scoring as Mercutio in "Romeo and Juliet" there. Perkins in Theater Guild Play Osgood Perkins, currently being seen on the screen with Lily Pons in her first film, RKO Radio's "I Dream Too Much," has been signed to play opposite Ina Clair in S. M. Behrman's "The End of Summer," the fifth production of the Theater Guild this season. Ruth Morris Married Ruth Morris, daughter of the late William Morris, theatrical agent, and herself actively connected with the Morris Agency since her father's death, was married this week in Saranac Lake, N. Y., to William C. White, author. "Pasteur" on Broadway fin February Broadway premiere of "The Story of Louis Pasteur," Cosmopolitan picture for Warner release, in which Paul Muni plays the role of the great man of science, will take place early in February, according to present plans. British Firm Building Color Film Laboratory Revelation Films, Ltd., exclusive British agent for the three-color Brewster film process, is erecting a color laboratory in London to be completed by April, after which the company will be able to offer service to motion picture companies, it was said yesterday by Stanley S. Neal, head of Revelation Films. A number of British producers have expressed interest in using the process, Neal said. Pittsburgh Patter Pittsburgh — There is a plan afoot among local exhibitors to meet and work up a formal protest against the threatened Ascap-Warner dual levy on music used in theaters. Carl A. Pugliese succeeded "Red" Bracconier as manager of the Variety Club here. "Sanders of the River" is the first U. A. release to play Warners' Davis. A party of 15 Variety Club members are planning to attend the first annual banquet of the Philadelphia tent to be held Jan. 12. Stepin Fetchit left the Stanley here to pick up a couple more vaudeville dates before returning to the 20th Century-Fox lot on the coast. George Tyson is back from Sandusky and on the job. Glanced on Film Row: Jim Balmer, John McGreevy, I. L. Butler, Eddie Golden, Harry Handel, Mark Browar, Sam Richman, William Hyde, Harry Rubin and Bill Powelson. Glen Gray Holding at Paramount Glen Gray and his Casa Loma Orchestra will be held over at the New York Paramount Theater when "Rose of the Rancho" takes over the screen there on Tuesday night. The Gray aggregation will put on a new program featuring the first theater appearance of Ed Farley and Mike Reilly, the Onyx Club Boys, who are responsible for the current song craze, "The Music Goes Round and Round." Baclanova Completing Vita. Musical Olga Baclanova completed work in her two-reel Vitaphone musical at the company's Brooklyn studios today. Supporting Miss Baclanova are Wilbur Hall, comedy trombonist and violinist; Roy, Lee and Dunn, dancers; Gretchen Kimmel, rhythm tap dancer; Will Aubrey, hill-billy banjo artist. Joseph Henabery is directing. New Hungarian Film Opens "Saint Peter's Umbrella," a Casino Film release from the story of the same name by the Hungarian writer, Koloman Mikszath, opens today at the Tobis Theater. "Silver Clouds," Hungarian musical romance now at the Hunnia Playhouse, will be held for a second week and possibly a third. Coming and Going BILL ROWLAND, producer, and ROBERT RITCHIE, manager for Jeanette MacDonald, sail today on the Champlain for Europe. M. A. SCHLESINGER leaves New York today for the Coast and shortly after his return East will depart for Europe JACK SEGAL of the Columbia Pictures foreign department sails today from New York on the Santa Clara for Panama DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS arrives in New York early next week from abroad on the Aquitania. H. G. WELLS sailed Thursday night on the Majestic for England. BENITO DEL VILLAR, managing director for Paramount in Chile, has arrived in New York. HARRIET HILLIARD, having completed her initial film role in RKO's Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers musical "Follow The Fleet," returns to New York from Hollywood this morning. She is under contract to appear in two future RKO productions during this year. OSCAR SERLIN, chief of Paramount's Eastern talent scouting department and a recently appointed New York production executive, left yesterday aboard the S. S. "Orizaba," on a vacation trip to Mexico City with Mrs. Serlin. They return to New York on Jan. 19. ROBERT PERKINS has gone to St. Louis from < New York. AUSTIN C.
