A private holding company, capitalized at more than $6,000,000 is being formed in England to acquire the interests of Universal Picture Corp., British affiliate of Universal. Arthur Rank and L. W. Farrow will be named directors of this organization. Under the move, General Film Distributors, Woolf's company, handles all Universal pictures, including Universal newsreel. Heading the British syndicate involved in the deal are Lord Portal, Rank, Paul Lindenberg and Farrow. British production units are expected to work, at times, at Universal City. The Universal buy will be completed in New York Thursday when payment of $4,000,000 will be made, supplementing the $1,500,000 cash already paid. Carl Laemmle, who arrives in New York today from the Coast, is expected to immediately begin conferring with Cowdin and tiis colleagues on moves culminating ;he arrangement. NEWS of the DAY La Crosse, Wis. — The Majestic here will be completely remodeled and enlarged at a cost of $50,000, according to an announcement by Frank L. Koppelberger, general manager of the La Crosse Theaters Co. Work will start about June 1 and will be completed within 60 days. Aurora, Neb. — The Mazda Theater is being remodeled and refurnished. Waterbury Lifts Its Ban on "Bank Night" Giveaways Waterbury, Conn. — City Prose:utor Mitchell Myer announces that 'Bank Night" would be given a ilean bill of health in the city. This follows Fred Van Doren's opera;ion of the plan last week in deiance of the city-wide ban which las been in effect one month. Adolph G. Johnson, representative :or Bank Night, states that Mrs. Lena Sirica has substituted Bank Night for Prosperity Night, as a ■esult of the decision, and that the Capitol will drop Big Night in its 'avor. Warner's State, he said, vould also take on Bank Night, alhough no definite dates have been nade public. The Pickwick Theater test case n Greenwich has still not been adudged. The Pickwick continues to 'eature the game, however, with no ntervention from authorities. The Stamford and Bridgeport bans renain in effect. Darien, where offilials considered stopping the game, las also been left unmolested. Improving Wellsburg Theater Wellsburg, W. Va.— Charlie Anlerson of the Alpine Circuit is initalling a new screen at his Alpine lere. While the flood reached his heater here last week, he saved all )f his seats before the water enered the house. New Front for Fox's Wisconsin Milwaukee — Fox's Wisconsin theater has donned a pew blue glass ront with aluminum trim and poster loxes of aluminum. Red Wing, Minn. — George Johnson and Eddie Ruben are remodeling and refurnishing their Metro Theater here. Kansas City — C. X. Nigro is erecting a new 1,000-seat house at Gregort Blvd. and Frand Ave. to cost $100,000. Des Moines — Central States Theaters Corp. has recently opened the newly equipped and redecorated Grand Theater as Esterville. Central States purchased the Grand from Henry Hower of Omaha early in January. Arlington, la. — J. F. Cass Theater Co. opened a new theater here Saturday night. Equipment recently installed includes new wide range sound and a new circulating heating and cooling system. The show will be operated four nights a week. Pittsfleld, Mass. — The Capitol Theater here has just installed a new power unit replacing the batteries heretofore used for filament current. F. A. Browne, electric sound engineer, together with projectionists and electricians worked all night on the installation with no interference to scheduled performances. Bluffton, Ind.— George Mailers installed a new Walker Silver Sheet screen in his Grand Theater. Evansville, Ind. — A. O. Hassenshall, operator of the Grand, has contracted for a new Walker White Brownstown, Ind. — Ball Bros, have installed a new Walker Silver Sheet screen in the Royal. Oklahoma City — New sound equipment installations are reported as follows: Milane at Sanford, Fla.; French Casino at Miami, Fla.; Playhouse at Statesville, N. C; Liberty at Eunice, La.; Strand at Kingsport, Tenn., and the Crescent Amusement circuit. New Orleans — The following theater improvements are reported: Rialto, Ruston, new ventilation; Palace, New Iberia, same — both by National Theater Supply; Water all at Lucedale, Miss., two new Simplex sound projectors and new seats. Anderson, Ind. — Harry P. Jones has leased the K. of P. Theater here and changed the name to the Colonial. The house has been completely renovated and redecorated, new equipment installed, including Simplex Projectors, new carpet, Walker screen and new sound apparatus. Columbia City, Ind. — A. E. Hancock has installed in his Columbia Theater new American Blower Co. heating coils, latest Simplex projectors, Magnarc Peerless projection lamps, General Electric copper oxide rectifiers, Bausch-Lomb lenses, new Walker screen and five hundred Irwin chairs. Indianapolis — A complete late model wide range G. R. P. I. sound equipment has just been installed in the Apollo Theater here. Detroit — The Home Theater, operated by Krul and Ferguson, is to be remodeled. PARA. PROGRAM 78% READY, SAYS AGNEW (Continued from Page 1) announcement Saturday by Neil F.
