Va., is a benedict. Bob Lonneman of Universal's personnel was married to Miss Kathryn Walker on Saturday. Ethel G. Schiels of GB and Eileen Burke of 20th Century-Fox played leading roles in the Junior Service Follies, staged here. Oscar Pierce of Main Theater, St. Albans, \V. Ya., is vacationing in Arizona. KANSAS CITY J. W. Davis, operator of the Davis, Higginsville, Mo., is receiving treatment at St. Luke's Hospital. He was stricken while visiting here. Lee Jones, former Trenton, Mo., exhibitor has purchased the Perkins Theater in Harrisonville, Mo., from A. T. Perkins. Howard Gould, formerly of M-G-M has been engaged by United Artists to take over the northern Kansas territory formerly covered by Pat Pinnell, who has resigned to go with Grand National. The Royal Theater which has been operating for more than a year as a ten cent double bill house, after being dark for a number of years, has closed. Building will be converted for business. SAN ANTONIO Rosita Moreno opens an engagement at the Municipal Auditorium Oct. 12. Jack Howard Britton of National Pictures is back from Dallas and Fort Worth. Sack Amusement Enterprises here has taken over "Legong" distribution in this territory. William Underwood and Claude G. Ezell of the Dallas Republic office were recent San Antonio visitors. Boonville, Ind. — George Settos, operator of the Ohio at Indianapolis, has acquired the Forrest. ( nr.eu ill. O.— D. R. Bly, who is associated with M. A. Shea in theaters in Conneaut, is having plans prepared by Potter and Bremmer, Cleveland architects, for a new 500seat theater to be built in Ashtabula. Dallas — The new Tower Theater, now under construction, will be ager. Miami Beach, Fla. — The Plaza, closed for the summer, is reopening. Columbus, O.— C. A. MacDonald has signed contracts for the building of a new 1,100-seat de luxe motion picture theater on W. Broad St. MacDonald also owns the Thurmania, Southland and Arlington. Zenia, O. — J. L. Thatcher's new Ohio a Zenia has opened. PITTSBURGH Harry Kalmine, Warner's zone nanager, returned from New York. Ditto George Jaffe, operator of the Casino Theater. The Fulton and Art Cinema, local first-run houses, are using GE subjects. Eddie Wymer of New York has succeeded Bob Weeden at the Fulton. Bernie Armstrong, formerly of the Alvin, moved to the Liberty Theater. Sam Stern, Warners' chief artist here, will exhibit a series of his oil paintings at Wunderly's beginning Oct. 19. Film Row Visitors: Sam Hanaeur of Beaver Falls, Dave Trimble of Masontown, J. C. Lund of Aliquippa, Joe Gray of Spangler and Lew Hepinger of Clarion. John Harris, president of the Harris Amusement Co., has gone to Cleveland to complete arrangements for the backing of a professional hockey team here this season. Admiral Richard E. Byrd will make a personal apearance here next Wednesday at the Syria Mosque in conjunction with the showing of his Antarctic picture. John Notopoulos, son of A. N. Notopoulos of the Penn-Ware Theater Corporation, has been named manager of the reopened Strand in Aliquippa. Des Moines, Iowa — Hal Bronson Theaters will open the Presidetn here after being dark for several years. The house will install sound, according to Bronson, for the showing of films two days of the otherwise weeks' schedule of flesh shows. The company also is negotiating for the Waterloo theater in Waterloo, la. and for a house in Burlington, la., Bronson stated. Mike Garrity, former manager of the Orpheum here, will manage. WESTERN MASS. The Elm Street Theater, Worcester, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Milton Wainstein, head usher at the Arcade, Springfield, has been appointed assistant manager of the Broadway, Springfield. The Park Theater, Westfield, has been redecorated. The Paramount, Springfield, is putting on a stage show in celebration of its seventh anniversary. The Paramount, North Adams, will stage a vaudeville revue and fashion show, Wednesday, using local talent. CONNECTICUT The Wilkinson, Wallingford reopened Saturday. The Empire, New London and Strand, Norwich, have installed new screens. The Tabackmans are negotiating for a new theater in the State, in addition to the recently-acquired Bostwick, Bridgeport. Roy Hanes, district manager, and Arthur Saxon of the home office contract department, were Warner visitors over the week-end. LOUISVILLE The Brown Theater has reopened. Fred Doile, president and general manager of the Fourth Avenue Amusement Co., is convalescing following an operation for appendicitis. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1936 BOSTON Harry Worden, who covers the New Hampshire territory for M-GM, is very ill. Harry Browning, publicity director for M. & P. Theaters, is back in his office after a trip to the coast. M. J. Mullin and Sam Pinanski, heads of M. & P., are still in New York. Edward Cuddy, divison manager, is back. "Roineo and Juliet" ended a five weeks' run here on Oct. 3. Arthur Sharby has taken over the Star Theater, Island Fond, Vt. and will remodel. After a 21-weeks' run in Boston, "Ecstasy" is now playing at the Colonial, Lawrence. It opens in Worcester, at the Regent, the 12th. It is scheduled to play the entire Morse circuit opening at Nashua, N. H., on Oct. 12. Holdovers in Boston: "What Price Innocence," third week at the Park; "Nine Days a Queen," second week at the Fine Arts. E. M. Loew has returned from a trip to Europe. SAN ANTONIO Albert Baedle has become manager of the Avon at Poteet, Tex. Gidney Talley of Pleasanton recently acquired this house from "Ed" Robison. J. T. Floore, Empire manager, is spending his vacation in Troup, Tex. Jimmy Grimes, Empire chief of service, spent his recent vacation down in South Texas. Visiting exhibs: Milton DuBose, Majestic, Cotulla; Carl Garner, Lantex, Llano; Frank Zimmerman, Palace and Plaza, San Marcos, and Bob Hutchins who recently acquired the Community at Comfort. WISCONSIN SOUTH and WEST Chesterfield Invincible product will be distributed at Dallas by Amity Film Exchange for the 193637 season. Dr. J. S. Darnell, Jr., is the new skipper of the Jasper Theater at Jasper, Ga. The new Imperial Theater, formerly the Lakewood Heights Theater at Atlanta, has reopened. Cudahy Theaters, Inc., has taken over the lease on the Cudahy and Majestic theaters in Cudahy. Cudahy Operating Co. formerly conducted the houses. Charles Trampe and E. L. Weisner, president and vice-president, respectively, of the old company, hold the same positions with Cudahy Theaters, Inc. Frank C. Buckley is reopening the Princess theater in Superior in mid-October as a second run house. The theater is being completely renovated. The Rivoli, Chippewa Falls, is undergoing renovation.
