Ricardo Cortez, who took the part of Perry Mason in "The Case of the Black Cat," has been withdrawn from the picture to join the cast of 'The Go-Getter." ▼ ▼ T Bobby Breen makes his second appearance for RKO Radio Pictures in "Rainbow on the River," which is among the company's releases for December. Other features to be released this month are: "Wanted: Jane Turner," "The Plot Thickens," and "Night Waitress." ▼ ▼ ▼ Plans are afoot finally for the unveiling of Sigrid Gurie, Norwegian screen star who was secretly signed by Samuel Goldwyn four months ago, and who has since been undergoing a vogorous training course for American films, Miss Gurie, who came here from the Norwegian National Theater, will make her first screen appearance with Gary Cooper in "The Adventures of Marco Polo," which Goldwyn will produce in partnership with Douglas Fairbanks. Miss Gurie's name will in all likelihood be changed. ▼ ▼ ▼ 'Last Train for Madrid," original story by Paul Hervey Fox, has been bought by Paramount. Joan Blondell and Jane Wyman will lead a French can-can number in "The King and the Chorus Girl," Bobby Connolly staging it. T T T Sol Lesser is already planning for Bobby Breen's future and says that he may send the youngster to Italy for further vocal studies and star him in an operetta upon his return, with opera to follow later. ▼ ▼ T "WomanWise" will be the release title of the Michael Whalen-Rochelle Hudson picture, directed by Allan which has been under production at 20th Century-Fox with the tentative title "Peach Edition." ▼ T T "Way Out West," the Hal RoachM-G-M feature comedy starring Laurel and Hardy, is proving such a laugh provoker to those who have seen it approaching shape for preview that Hal Roach has placed the director, James W. 'Progress" Seen in Move to Aid American Theater Frank Gillmore, president of Actors' Equity, and members of the League of N. Y. Theaters conferred again yesterday at Equity headquarters on proposals for improving the condition of the American theater and reported "progress." Luise Silcox, executive secretary of the Dramatists' Guild, was unable to attend. Gillmore said that another meeting would be held in a few weeks. He declared that among the matters discussed was the question of finances for attaining the desired objective but that no definite action had been taken on the matter. Philly's Variety Club Names Amsterdam Barker Philadelphia— Tent No. 13, Variety Club, has elected officers for 1937 as follows: chief barker, Ben Amsterdam; first assistant chief barker, Lewen Pizor; second assistant chief barker, Sam Schwartz; property man, Milton Rogasner; dough guy, Charles Segall; delegate to national convention, Earle Sweigert; alternate, Leonard Schlesinger. Chambers Weds Canton, 0. — Robert Keith Chambers, for several years manager of the Palace Theater here and Miss Helen Ruth Ryan, also identified with the same theater, were married Nov. 23 at Wellsburg, W. Va. They will reside here. T T T Martha Raye, who recently soared to fame as a screen comedienne, returned to Hollywood today after a two week vacation devoted to entertaining her grandmother, Mrs. Theresa Kleinhans, in Great Falls, Mont. T T ▼ Henry Potter arrived in Universal City yesterday to discover that Universal has assigned him to direct "Wings Over Honolulu" by Mildred Gram. The screen play is written by Isabel Dawn and Boyce De Gaw.
