The Spiegel interests will also refurnish and decorate the Palace, Schenectady. The changes will give increased seating capacity, and will allow 2,000 instead of 900 to view each performance. Douglas Fairbanks states that he has not yet signed with anyone except the "Big Five." Doug is now completing his last Arteraft film as yet unnamed. The "Big Five" is holding frequent meetings talking over distribution plans. They intend that all five will be making pictures under their new arrangement by Dec. 1. Sunday Educationals. Elizatbeth, X. J. — After a conference with the Mayor, theater owners kept their shows open on Sunday presenting educationals. Houses were open from 2 to 4 in the afternoon and from 8 to 10 in the evening. Lockwood's Third for Release. "Shadows of Suspicion'' the third of the four remaining Lockwood pictures which the star made for Screen Classics before his death will be released shortly through Metro. Beach Sues Selig Wants Accounting For Royalties on Two Producticrs. (Special to WID'S UAlLi ; I Chicago — Rex Beach, the author, has started two suits against the Selig Polyscope Co., charging breach ot contract. The novelist demands large sums it is .said due as royalties on "The Spoilers" and "The Ne'er Do Well" and asks for an accounting and payment to him of one fourth of the ijet profits which he alleges is due him. Mr. Beach charges that the Selig company, altho making thousands of dollars from the two films has failed to make the agreed payments and reports. The court is asked to enter an order calling on the Selig Polyscope Co. to comply with the terms of the contract. ' "The Spoilers" was one of the first Big American productions to be made and was the sensation of the year about five years ago. The fight scenes pictures were by many regarded as Classic. "The Ne'er Do Well" was filmed on the original ground of the Rex Beach story, a company of Selig players having been sent to the Panama for the purpose. Williams Happy First National Manager Returns From Coast Optimistic Over Outlook. John D. Williams, manager of the First National Exhibitors' Circuit, arrived in Xew York yesterday from what he described was the "most by First National." Although Mr. Williams refused to mention names, he admittei fact that after the expiration present contracts, a number of important stars Would be added to the Firs National releasing list. He confirmed the report regarding the llin Griffith productions and smiled when the names of Douglas Fairbanks and Charles Ray were mentioned. He would not discuss further who the new stars were to be. "First National held its most important and successful meeting,'' said Mr. Williams. "We did what tlanned to do — and then some more." Mr. Williams admitted that the First National franchise holders were called upon to supply approx$3, 00), 000 during the next 12 months. "I'.ut." he said, ''they will get back $6,000,000. The outlook was never so bright. This is sure. I doubt if any picture ever made w^l make more money and be a greater success than Mary Pick" Ford's 'Daddy Long-Legs.' It's going to be a knock-out. Th two reels are finished and they are the best I have ever seen." Regarding the affair of Harry Schwalbe with the Peerless Exchange in Philadelphia in view of recent developments there, Williams said : "Schwalbe is 100^. loyal. Because of that. First National directors have just increased his salary. That's all that need be said." Regarding the "Big Five" combination. Air.
