Film Code of Ethics Adopted at Trade Practice Conference, New York, Oct. 10-16, 1927. ll FIFTEEN trade rules and ten resolutions adopted as trade expressions are embraced in the Code of Ethics of the industry, approved by the Federal Trade Commission out of the number of resolutions proposed at the Trade Practice Conference in New York, October 10-16, 1927. A resolution seeking to stamp service to non-theatrical accounts an unfair practice, was rejected as illegal by the commission, while four other resolutions were held in abeyance, due to the divergence of opinion between the various branches of the industry upon the subjects concerned. These were among the most vital resolutions proposed at the conference. In making public the Code of Ethics on May 28, 1928, Commissioner Abram F. Myers, who presided at the conference, recommended immediate proceedings against all distributors practicing block booking. A trial period of from six to twelve months to observe working of and adherence to the Code was recommended, after which a report is to be submitted by M. Markham Flannery, director of trade practice conferences, to be accompanied by recommendations upon which calling of a second conference may depend. See page 353 for summary of Code of Ethics.
