Competitions — 80% American; remaining 20% divided between Germany and France. Copyright Relations — Established by Presidential Proclamation July 1, 1891, extended April 9, 1910, and June 14, 1911. Production — Two new companies formed "Lux Films" and Roxy Films. Have opened studios in Brussels to produce sound films. Still sporadic production of silent films by individual producing units rather than companies. Taxes — Still heavy. Customs Duties same as last year. Admission taxes slightly reduced from last year by royal decree of February 16, 1929, as follows — tickets below 3 francs, 10%; between 3 and 5 francs, 14% ; between 5 and 7 francs, 18% ; over 7 francs, 22%. Communes and provinces still have right to impose additional local taxes. Theaters — 700. Brussels, 78 with 12 over 1,000 seating capacity; Antwerp 32, with 6 over 1,000 seating capacity. 1,800 Houses Wired Approximately 1.800 foreign houses were wired by Jan. 1, 1930, according to an estimate made by the Motion Picture Division, U. S. Dept. of Commerce. Of this total, about 1,200 were in Europe, 350 in the Far East and 200 in Latin America. Sound — About 15 theaters so far equipped with sound devices, 5 of these in Brussels, as follows: — Casino Lyrique; Coliseum; Mauvaux; Cameo and Angora. Imports from U. S.
