WRONG JOB "I do not know what Prem Adib thinks about doing the opening ceremony of a picture, but his appearance at the opening ceremony of "Dehati", here was not at all dignified. He was not in time, was unprepared and failed to speak nicely or impress the I public." Satya Naraycn Prasad. Jnagpur, CP. ASK GOD * "The Allied Art, Productions Ltd., Famous Cine Studio. Mahaluxmi, Bombay 4 recently advertised for the po«ts of managers in important cities in India and IPpkhtan on respectable salaries. One of my friends was interested in the advertisement and when he wrote to this Company thev sent him an application form. One of the conditions for submitting this I application form is that it should VI be accompanied by a deposit of 3U|Rs. 5| (which will not be refunded). "You will certainly agree with me that this is a form of exp'oiting the unemployed. God knows how many applications and deposits have been received by this firm, and considering that your goodself and the "filmindia" ^are the only harbingers in an Botheru ie sad but a good indusBtry I pass this information to you Bto do the needful." ■BOMBAY. N. II. V. Waran .IN "DAULAT ZADA" "Recently I happened to see 'Nargis' and 'Shehnai', running in the local Ti'mistan" and 'Nigar' respectively. There I came across p. very strange and stupid thing. Members of the audience begin throwing money on the stage screen, as soon as they come across some catchy tune or dance." MEERUT. Mahendra Kishore INDEED ! •"Saved Imtiaz Ali Taj is considered a good writer in our line. His story "Khandan" is still fresh in our minds. He is also the author of many dramas which AIR relays frequently ?,nd many like myself switch on the set to hear his "great work." "In March, from Lahore his drama 'Clloo Ki Jaban" Ian Owl's Tongue) was relayed. This was presented as his own work. "In Reader's Digest (Aug. '47) I have read 'Monkey's Paw' by W. W. Jacobs. Ulloo Ki Jaban is a word by word translation of the tame. "Will Mr. Taj have the courage to acknowledge the source of his "Great work" and intimate the SPJlie to AIR people?" BOMBAY Dinker M. Desai RIGHT, BUT — "Permit me to pay my homage to you for your consistent criticism of our Film Censor Board's sluggishness, in the latest issue of your "filmindia". It is really surprising how pictures like "Nateeja", "Jai Malhar" and "Mcera". are passed by the Censor Board. I hope you will continue such social service, time to time, to open the eyes of our Government. But I would like to make a suggestion to you in this connection. You are always a bit late in taking cudgels against such ribald pictures. I request you. as a custodian of public morality, to commence a campaign against such pictures, as soon ?,s they are released, through your 'free, frank and fearless' "filmindia"." BOMBAY. N. S. Sawant GENTLEMEN ? HA, HA, HA ! "I hed the fortune — or was it a mifortune — of seeing the picture "Shehnai" at our local Paramount Talkies. As regards the picture I have nothing to say except that it is quite a good timekiller. I have, however, Mr. Patel, to say something about the 'patrons' who were so kind enough to patronise the Paramount Talkies on that particular day. They were the worst rowdies I have ever come across. Their behaviour was Rajendra and Sulochana Chatterjee make a comic team in "Nai Reef a social story produced by Indian Film Corporation. 67
