The Technique of Film Editing. Focal Press, 1953. Written and compiled by Karel Reisz with the guidance of a committee of filmmakers appointed by the British Film Academy. This book represents considerable research by Karel Reisz, who received indispensable help from a number of film-makers, British and foreign, who were prepared to analyse and reconstruct with him the process of editing which went into their films. The result is a book which is recognized internationally as a work of authority.
Cocteau on the Film. A Conversation recorded by Andre Fraigneau. Dennis Dobson, 1954. Cocteau, prompted by his friend Fraigneau, discusses his personal position as a poet working from time to time through the medium of film, and explains his intentions in his chief productions. A very illuminating book.

These three volumes contain American screenplays edited for the reading public including It Happened One Night, Rebecca, The Grapes of Wrath, Little Caesar, Fury, The Life ofEmile Z°la> Juarez, The Good Earth, All that Money can Buy, Stagecoach, The Miracle of Morgan's Creek, The Ox-bow Incident, Hail the Conquering Hero, The Southerner, and Double Indemnity. Scott of the Antarctic. David James. Convoy Publications, 1948. Written by the film's Arctic Adviser, this book is a model description of the planning and making of a film which involved considerable research and elaborate location work.
