Series starring Ben Gazzara is directed by William Haie and guest-stars Marlyn Mason and Farley Granger with matador Ramon Tirado playing himself. * * * West Coast premiere of Par's "Is Paris Burning?" will be sponsored by the Thalians at the Warner Hollywood Theatre Nov. 9. The benefit is for the Thalians' clinic for emotionally disturbed children. Jack L. Warner, president of Warner Bros. Pictures, Inc., announced the signing of a multi-million dollar co-production deal be- tween Steve McQueen's Solar Productions, and Warner Bros, for six motion pictures to be completed within the next five years. Under the terms of the agreement, Mc- Queen will Star in three of the films to be produced by Solar for Warner Bros, release. The agreement between the two Companies permits McQueen to both produce and star in outside films. The Company has moved into new production quarters in the Burbank lot. HERE AND THERE ... Universal has dropped "The Bandit" as title of a Technicolor western feature in favor of "The Ride To Hangman's Tree." Pic toplining Jack Lord, Melodie Johnson, James Farentino and Don Galloway, will be produced by Howard Christie. * * * Lawrence Werner signed a new long term contract as post-production executive, it was announced by Charles "Chuck" Fries, v-p and executive production manager for Screen Gems. Werner is in Charge of all post-production operations on "Bewitched," "I Dream of Jeannie," "Hawk," "Love On A Rooftop," "The Monkees," "Occasional Wife," and "Iron Horse." * * * Members of Publicists Guild Local 818, IATSE, have endorsed National Movie Month and its goals and "will do all in their power to make National Movie Month a success," according to a resolution adopted last week. * * * Elsa Lanchester cast by Walt Disney for his feature comedy, "Blackbeard's Ghost" — starring Peter Ustinov and Dean Jones. She portrays the owner of an inn, in which the restless spirit of the 1 7th Century pirate sud- denly materializes and complicates the life of a 20th Century track coach. * * * Warner Bros, will film E. Yip Harburg and Fred Saidy's hit legit musical, "Finian's Rain- bow," which at various times over 19 years has been up for lensing by various Studios seeking property. Prexy Jack L. Warner reports shooting will begin on the Burbank lot in April, Fred Astaire starring. * * * Ben Alexander, by a unanimous vote of the board of trustees of the Motion Picture Relief Fund, has been reinstated as a member of that board, having resigned in 1964 when he moved his family to Maui. Alexander, now in Hollywood starring in the "Felony Squad" TV series, has long been active in MPRF affairs, and was first elected to the executive committee in 1956. Karen Jensen, Universal contract actress, has been voted "Miss Press Club—1966" by the Greater Los Angeles Press Club. . . .Benson Fong has left for Rome to confer with pro- ducer Alberto Grimaldi on role opposite Leonora Ruffo in "The Man from Hong Kong," slated in November. . . . Larry Stewart, 20th- Fox casting director, is directing a play titled "The Preacher" at the Curtain Call Theatre, Lankershim and Magnolia Blvds. . . . Billy Mumy and Angela Cartwright, young stars of Irwin Allen's "Loit in Space" series, will be guests of honor at the Annual Teen Award Dinner to be held Oct. 29. The Teen Award is sponsored by the Spotlighters, an arm of the San Fernando Valley Youth Foundation. . . . Sam Thomas has joined the Walt Disney Studio documentary dept... . David Wages of "F Troop" is the owner of a new color TV set as a result of a drawing following the fall meeting of Motion Picture Sound Editors at the Masquers Club. . . . NBC Burbank is so bursting at the seams with activity, there's no office space available for Pat Boone and his new daytime series unit. Pat has been scout- ing the immediate neighborhood for a house he can convert to Offices for himself and his show staff. . . . At Universal, parking in the main entrance lot, adjoining the Bank of America, E. F. Hutton and the MCA bldg., will now cost $1 and is controlled by an automatic gate. Customers and VIP visitors will be given tokens by pre-arrangement. . . . WB will build Steve McQueen's Co. office building on the site of the old tennis court on the Burbank lot. . . . Makeupman Lawrence Butterworth, 47, died in his sleep Sept. 18 in Austin, Texas, enroute with John Wayne to Durango, Mex., for Wayne's next picture, Universal's "The War Wagon." Butterworth, who suffered from heart disease, had been Wayne's makeup¬ man eight years. He is survived by widow, two sons, five sisters, two brothers. . . . Clu Gulager, who asked for and received his release as a regulär from NBC-TV's "The Virginian" last season, is back at the ranch, returned to the series as a regulär, resuming his role as sheriff. 4
