Annual “EDDIE" Awards Honor Film Editing Achievements Once again excitement prevailed in the saga of ballots, nominees, votes, winners and award presentations as the American Cinema Editors pre¬ pared for their 17th Annual Awards Dinner, Saturday, April 1st. The Century Plaza Hotel has been selected as the site for the gala function, and the spotlights will fall on producers, directors, writers, actors, actresses, film editors, and as always, the invincible press. As an opener, U.S. Senator George Murphy, then a producer and actor, M.C.’d the event, and production executive Dore Schary was guest speaker. Through the years the American Cinema Editors’ plaques for outstand¬ ing achievement have gained in importance and prestige, as has the image of the film editor. With this recognition of creative ability, the editors now enjoy a closer relationship with producer, director and writer, and a creditable reputation in the motion picture industry. With the growing success of the Awards Dinner, members of American Cinema Editors decided on an additional mark of distinction. On March 14, 1965, at the 15th Annual Awards Dinner, there was initiated the now coveted “Eddie” Award. This statue has become a cherished symbol of quality and is accepted with honor by its recipients. The annual event has had continually the support of top names in the industry. A Who’s Who of celebrities have attended as entertainers, TWO WINNERS- A TIE presenters, masters of ceremonies, and oftentimes just in attendance.
