'GIRLS FRIDAY 1 PLAN FUND-RAISING DRIVE by Mabel De Cinces Hats off to the Girls Friday of Show Biz, executive secretaries for the “big wheels” in the industry. This club started with a few girls meeting during their lunch time, snowballing when secretaries from other studios decided they, too, would meet. From this, a philanthropic organization was started. It provided reconstruc¬ tive or corrective surgery for needy children who cannot benefit from in¬ surance funds or parental assets. Once a year there is a fund-raising Spring Dance. This year it will be held on April 29 at the Beverly Hil¬ ton Hotel, Beverly Hills. Tickets are now available at $7.50 per person. It includes dinner and entertainment. Chairman in charge of appeal is Dee Somers. Tickets may be ob¬ tained from any Girl Friday. There will be many guest stars. Among those who have confirmed are: Ann B. Davis, Leif Erickson, Joe Flynn, Glen Ford and Kathryn Hays, James Griffith, Dean Jones, Robert Middleton, Ruth Olay, and Peter Palmer. Door prizes set thus far are: a weekend for two including meals at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, an original jewelry design from the House of Neuwirth, and a package of eight record albums from various artists at Reprise Records, and many more. This is indeed a worthwhile charity in which fellow workers in the in¬ dustry should become interested. During the past year Girls Friday participated in a fund raising event which made it possible for three cases to have corrective surgery. It is their hope to triple that figure this year from the proceeds of this Spring Dance. On March 21, 1967, a dinner was held in the Gold room of the Knick¬ erbocker Hotel. Special guests were Brad Dexter, actor-producer, and Dave Madden, musician-comedian. Purpose of this affair was the in¬ stalling of new officers and Board of Directors: Louise Wolf, Incoming Bulletin and Publicity Chairman; President Elect, Dee Somers; First Vice President, Anne Pincus; Sec¬ ond Vice President, Louise Varri- ano; Corresponding Secretary, Kan- dee Arnold; Recording Secretary, Melinda Pfahler; Treasurer, Helen Melnick; and Philanthropy Chair¬ man, Shirley Corrigan. Good luck, success, and best wishes to these new officers and Board of Directors of the Girls Fri¬ day of Show Biz. INSTALLATION OF 1967 OFFICERS: L. Winifred E. Robertson, 1966. R. Dee Somers, 1967 President of “Girls Friday of SHOWBIZ." 8
