The National Society DAR Americanism med¬ al and certificate was awarded to her in recognition of her contributions to the city of Los Angeles. She is also the DAR’s Naturalized Citizen of the Year for the state of California. The medal is awarded to an adult, nat¬ uralized citizen of over five years, who has demonstrated outstanding ability fol¬ lowing naturalization in trustworthiness, service, leadership and patriotism. British born, Vera was naturalized in 1954. From her experiences in the bomb¬ ings of England during World War II, she has given invaluable service to the civil de¬ fense efforts of Los Angeles. During the Korean conflict, she was a ground observ¬ er in the United States Air Corps and is the recipient of the USO ten-year award pin representing 2,000 hours of work. This is just the second Americanism medal awarded through the Hollywood chapter since the award was established by the National Society of DAR in 1958.
