NEWS FROM GOWER GULCH By Bea Colgan LEISURE WORLD — Congratulations to Ely Levy, foreign pub., and his wife Mathilde. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversy on June 23rd by taking a second honeymoon. Margaret Robbins, fresh off the plane from the Screen Gems Star Flight to Mexico City, reports that she took an extra week in Acapulco soaking up some sun. She had an absolute ball but got terribly sun¬ burned. An amusing highlight of the trip was a luncheon in Mexico City at the La Marina restaurant. It’s layed out like a miniature bull ring with tables around the top and a ring in the center. While the group dined and took home movies, the stars fought small young bulls in the ring below. When the bulls became bored with the stars, they took special delight in chasing poor Harry Flynn around the ring, sending everyone into hysterics. Most of the group returned June 5th but Mr. and Mrs. Len Weissman stayed until the 16th and Margaret returned the 14th. My BH and I spent a grand 4th of July in Las Vegas. (No, we didn’t bring anything back — we left it there. Doesn’t every¬ one?) Ollie Prosser takes more vacations than anyone we know. Took another week in July as did Mac St. Johns and my BB, Joel Preston. Destinations — un¬ known. Mac and his wife, Barbara, recent¬ ly returned from Mexico City where they combined business with pleasure. The opening of trout season always finds Charles Rice of sound, vacationing in the mountains. Trudy Burns of teletype, back from Texas where she visited her son, Doug, an employee of NASA in Flight Operations and Public Relations dept. He composes all speeches made by the astro¬ nauts and key NASA officials. Joe Ansen, trailer dept., and his wife, Dorothy, just returned from a five week tour of the Orient. They visited Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Maylasia, Bangkok and Hawaii. Bob Quinn, also of trailers, is on a 6-week tour or Europe. The first week was spent in London on business but he’s now buzzing through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Italy and, pos¬ sibly, France. Bernie Weinstein, mail room, back after 3 exciting weeks touring the Eastern U. S. Editorial’s Harry Levy’s wife is enjoying 4 months in Europe, touring with “the girls” as Harry couldn’t afford to go along. WEDDING BELLS - Betty Scott’s (SG casting) daughter, Debby tied the knot on May 19th with a young Army man. Now hubby has been shipped to Germany for a year and a half so Debby is making plans to join him. Chuck Retz, utility, merged with Sue Kortlang on June 22 in Riverside. They honeymooned at Disneyland — will visit Maine in late summer. Norm Colbert, editor, and his wife just celebrated their first anniver¬ sary. Joel and Harriet Preston, their 11th June 14. Congratulations. NEW ASSIGNMENTS - Philip Bag- well left multilith for stores; Steve Della¬ gatta from special effects to payroll; Ronald Couser, mail room, moves to Col. pub. as messenger. SICK CALL — property, back after foot surgery and Barbara Eason, tele¬ phone operator, recuperating from recent illness, a relapse from previous surgery. Joey (Mrs. John) Flinn suffered a sprained ankle in June and the very next day, daughter, Patty, was involved in an auto accident. We wish them both a speedy recovery. FAREWELL — Leslie Harris of pay¬ roll; Florence Luneau, sec’y; Ann Palmer, TV commercials. Richard DeMond of the mail room, left June 7th for a summer stock tour with Lewis & Young Prods. He will be appearing at Sacramento Opera House in “Music Man” and “Westside Story,” among others. Dick came to Columbia straight from Broadway where he was in the “Sweet Charity” company with Gwen Verdon. AROUND THE LOT — Ben Lipscombe, accounting, just passed his pre-law exam — first step toward his law degree. Ken Prymus of the mail room and previously a member of The Young Americans, just landed a part in “The Model Shop.” Ken plays a cook. Troy Reins, receiving, cut four single records for which he wrote the music and ar¬ rangements on three of the songs. Our next Sinatra? Joan Parks, accounts pay¬ able, recently appeared as a member of a Greek-Israeli folk dance ensemble in a performance at the Shrine Auditorium. Norman Daloisio, Col. pub., doing men’s fashion modeling in his spare time. We sure have some talented folks on our lot! May Golf Tournament trophy winners were: Class A, Geoff Fischer and Joe Henrie (tie); Class B, Val O’Malley; Class C, Johnnie Burlak, and Blind Bogey, Joe Goodson. Our Studio Club softball team won their first two outings. They trounced Thriftimart 17 to 3 and Beilis Steel, 12 to 5. Congratulations boys! Keep it up. Carl Leininger had an unusual babysitting job one June weekend. While Eddie Kurose was in Sacramento Carl took care of Bonnie and Clyde, Eddie’s two Hamsters. Both boys work in multi¬ lith. Neal Warner, construction, though he had lost his pet Hamster recently. Snoopy escaped and Neal couldn’t find him so he finally went to bed, exhausted and worried. Where do you think Snoopy turned up next morning? In bed with Neal! Speaking of pets, our Persian kit¬ ten, Sweetheart, recently won her cham¬ pionship at the American Cat Fancier’s show in Canoga Park. She came home with 6 ribbons. Were we proud! Another talented gal on the lot is Gerry Holt, sec’y to Jacques Demy, producer of “The Model Shop.” Gerry is making all the “love beads” used in the film. Speaking of Jacques, he celebrated his birthday on June 5th. He is the only person I have ever met who not only was born on the same day as yours truly — but the same year as well! Please don’t ask him his age. 15
