Sinai this afternoon with a coronary attack. I’m happy to report that it was minor and Bernie (hopefully) will be back at work by the time you read this... Hope Izzy is back too or he’ll miss the first weeks of bowling. SCREEN GEMS SPECIALS - UC’s star athlete O.J. Simpson is launching an acting career in “The Outcasts” series . . . UCLA Theatre Arts graduate Kent Wilson has won the 68 SG’s Fellowship. He will receive four months training in all phases of production at SG’s. . . Don Murray of “Outcasts” was surprise birth¬ day partied on the set recently with cake and champagne. Among those present were his wife and five children . . . Mac¬ donald Carey recently returned from Phoenix where he attended return-cele¬ bration of “Days of Our Lives” to local TV. Series had been cancelled but was brought back by popular demand . . . Ernie Losso, new casting director on “Brides” and “Bewitched,” replaces Burt Metcalfe who has been upped to assistant to Harry Ackerman, exec producer at SG’s. Ernie comes to SG from Para¬ mount . . . Howard Morris has signed ex¬ clusive deal with EUG/SG’s. He will direct commercials and be available to clients as a creative-consultant . .. Jake McKinney, publicity, back from promo¬ tional tour on behalf of “Outcasts.” He accompanied Don Murray and Otis Young. AROUND THE LOT - Ben Lips- combe, accounting, elected president of his first year law class at Blackstone Law School . . . Don Frielding’s nephew, Dr. Edward Freiling, has received the Dept, of the Navy’s Superior Civilian Service Award for his “major contributions in the characterization of nuclear fallout, partic¬ ularly for his comprehensive studies in fractionation in which he is an interna¬ tionally acknowledged authority” ... The Studio Club men’s softball team wound up in third place in the industrial league last month . .. Club’s bowling league started Sept. 5th at Joe Kirk¬ wood’s in the Valley.
