NEWS FROM GOWER GULCH , By Bea Colgan LEISURE WORLD - With so many folks on vacation, my department (publicity) seems almost empty at times. My boss, Joel Preston, just back from two weeks in London, reports he took the family on a side trip to Amsterdam where they visited the Anne Frank house. While at the London airport waiting for their plane to be repaired, they bumped into Bill Wid- mayer, camera head, so all had breakfast together. Its a small world...Helen La- Varre, who cruised up the West Coast on a private yacht, also managed a side trip to Miami before reporting back to work.. .Ollie Prosser and Norman Daloisio of the horsey set, took their Arabians up to Santa Barbara on September 16th for the 24th Annual All Arabian Fall Horse Show...Marilyn Miller and her Frank took off for Detroit on September 20th to visit her mother. From there they rented a car and drove to Ohio to visit her sister. Then airborne again for New York to see Frank’s folks. And all that in a week!... Yours truly will be spending a week at home while you are reading this - just resting as did Ed Chaplin on his recent two week vacation. Can’t forget a thoughtful husband like Ed Hale who spent his week caring for his wife after she returned from the hospital where she was seriously ill...Trudy Burns, teletype, spent Labor Day in Las Vegas. (No, she didn’t bring anything back)...Telephone girl Inez Cahill reports her August Vegas sojourn netted the same results but she had a marvelous time...Editorial’s Connie Roth spent a September week in San Diego...Josephine Olson, foreign, winged to Europe in September for a glorious month abroad. She visited Holland, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, France and England. Ah these lucky blokes...Scenic’s Ruth Eckstein spent her leisure time in Las Vegas and San Diego while Mike Mikaelian fished in Aspen, Colorado. Meanwhile, back in scenic, Clyde Mitchell became a grandfather... Screen Gems’ Harry Flynn, publicist on “Bewitched,” just returned from Martha’s Vineyard, Mass, which just happens to be his birthplace...Art Dept.’s Carl Kolhoff is currently visiting Canada while Paul Krempel basks in the sun and surf of Laguna...Ranch foreman, Ole Olson, fished around in Northern California for — of all things — fish! Placerville and Nevada City number among his stops for angling...Drapery’s Harry Wolfe (who al¬ ways manages to get his name in my column one way or another) spent the Labor Days in San Diego/Tijuana, return¬ ing by way of La Jolla and Mount Palomar...Jimmy downing of electric toured the Mid-West recently including Iowa, the Black Hills of South Dakota and Montana among his stops....After “The Wrecking Crew” finished shooting, art director Joe Wright immediately took off for Japan where he owns his own home...Accounting’s Bill Kitchen visited several national parks in Colorado and Arizona while Rose Lehman of Make-up chose Hawaii for relaxing...Helen Lang of electric also chose the beach — a local one however. The Couser Twins had a birthday in September and were feted by the Columbia publicity department. Left to right are Helen Molenaar, Marilyn Miller, Ron Couser, Don Couser and Ollie Prosser. Lest you ever wonder why we have so many welcomes and goodbyes to say every month, its because we have many people who are hired only for a specific job. When the project is completed, they leave us (sometimes) for other work and I just hate to forget anyone in my column.
