SIGIOGZING = ss Studio Briefs... Xj Nostaigies.Book Reviews. . y Festivals ... Letters... It was 1974 in Paris Aristotle Onassis said, “Tony, promise me one thing. If anybody does do my life in a film, you will do it. . .because you'll be nice to me,” according to the Ladies Home Journal. But even with that ecomium, Anthony Quinn was ready to give up his latest movie role after representatives of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis made repeated requests for him not to play the part. Quinn says he did not “want to hurt that woman, who’s lost two husbands. . .” But then he got snubbed. At a restaurant in Cannes, Mrs. Onassis passed him by as if she had never met him, the article said, adding that Quinn hoped he had fulfilled Onassis’ wish. Buddy Hackett and Harvey Korman appear in “Bud and Lou,” a film of the not-so-funny lives of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello. HOLLYWOOD — A move to have one block of Irvin Blvd. in Hollywood renamed Valentino Place in honor of the late silent screen star cleared the first huddle when the City Council’s Public Works Committee gave its approval. The city engineer said two signs would have to be changed at a cost of about $102, which property owner Clark Polak said he would pay. Orange County Filmmaker’s Showcase is searching for locally made films to show at the group’s various showcases. The film group was formed last year to provide an outlet where local filmmakers could screen their Super 8 and 16 mm films. Filmmakers interested in submitting films to be shown are asked to write to Orange County Filmmaker’s Showcase, P.O. Box 372, Tustin, 92680. FESTIVALS The 7th Annual Thames Film Festival award was recently presented in Hollywood to Robert Aldrich for the consistently high integrity of his films. Festival Director Tony Watts flew in from London for the presentation and to attend Filmex. Previous recipients of the award were the B.B.S. Film Group and Lamont Johnson. BOOKS Ingrid Bergman used to tell her close friend, BBC writer and producer Alan Burgess, that when she was ready to do her autobiography she wanted him to write it. Some time back, Burgess dropped this bit of information over lunch with Delacorte editorial director Ross Claiborne. “Burgess finally called me and said now is the time. Ingrid will be doing a play in London early in 1978 and she'll have time to sit and tape,” says Claiborne. Meanwhile, Burgess flew to California to gather background for the project. He interviewed everyone who knew Bergman in her Hollywood days, Miss Bergman’s first husband, Dr. Lindstrom, and her daughter Pia. The autobiography, Claiborne says, will be “an unvarnished portrait. She wants it all told.” Presumably that will include her side of what appeared to be a “scandalous” romance with Roberto Rosselini which rocked the world at the time.
