NEW MOVIES
A three-hour TV movie dramatizing the life and career of Elvis Presley is in the works at ABC and is scheduled to air later this season. The title role in “Elvis” will be played by Kurt Russell, star of numerous Walt Disney movies and a short-lived NBC series, “The Quest.” Dick Clark is the executive producer.
“Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” in which Jane Powell and Howard Keel recreate their original film roles in this new stage musical version, has been rescheduled at the Pantages Theatre and will now open April 24 as the third presentation in James Nederlander’s _four-musical subscription package there.
Rumors are that Audrey Hepburn whose last picture was “Robin and Marian” some years ago may be enticed out of retirement to star in a two hour film for TV “The Best Place to Be” opposite Anthony
Quinn. Married to psychiatrist Dr. Andrea Dotti, Audrey has been spending most of her time in Switzerland.
FESTIVALS
MONTE CARLO INT’L TV FEST — The 19th International Television Festival of Monte Carlo is slated for Feb. 16-24.
Screenings of dramatic programs will be held Feb. 17-23, and news programs Feb. 21-23.
FILM COMMISSION Location lensing problems for tv will be an added dimension to the 1979 Film Commission Cineposium, Jan. 23-25, hosted by the Film Promotion Office of the United States Virgin Islands.
Cineposium h.q. will be at Sapphire Beach Hotel in St. Thomas.
Film Commission Cineposiums in the past have deait almost exclusively with location problems in the making of features, but this year the confab will focus just as heavily on video, since there will be as many, if not more films made for tv this year as there will be for theatrical release.
CAIRO FILM FESTIVAL — The Cairo Film Festival reversed itself and refused screening of the official Italian entry, ‘The Garden of the Finzi-Continis” due to censorship imposed by the Egyptian government. Producer Arthur Cohn, who was an invited guest of the festival, subsequently refused permission for another of his films, “Black and White in Color,” to be shown. The latter film has been the official French entry.
paris film festival — The winner of the 4th Paris Film Festival was Paul Schrader’s “Blue Collar,” the Best Actress was Geraldine Chaplin, for her part in “Remember My Name,” and Best Actor, Italian Nino Manfredi, for his role in Luigi Magni’s “In Nome del Papa Re.”
These three awards were chosen by a jury composed of 100 Parisian cinema fans, who replied to a poll organized by SOFRES (an opinion poll service specializing in forecasting national elections.)
