Cobalt nickel alloy in the 205-D filament prevents sagging and breaking when the tube is placed in a horizontal position, and thoriated tungsten filaments in the 242-A prevent gas and short life, as was so frequently the case with older tubes, using oxide coated filaments.
Great heat dissipating power allows these Sylvania tubes to run cool where others show brilliant red on their plates.
