We have referred to the National Cinematheque (Film Archive) which the uninitiated tend to confuse with the Cinematheque de la Ville de Paris. A word of explanation will not be out of place here. Although it has actually been in existence since 1920, the City of Paris Film Archive was not officially founded until the beginning of 1926, following on a resolution of the Municipal Council; it was then definitely established in the premises of the former Primary School, 14 Rue de Fleurus, in the Luxembourg quarter, which have since been taken over entirely by this Service.
Since the ist. January 1927 the Municipal Film Archive has been subsidized by the Seine General Council, which has enabled it to extend its action to the whole of the Department, as regards both the loan of films and the organization of lectures. Following on an agreement between the General Direction of Technical Training and the City of Paris, and thanks to a subsidy granted by the Ministry of Public Education and Fine Arts, the Municipal Film Archive is now the headquarters of the cinematographic service in connection with technical training for vocational orientation. This is a national service.
