Further, such melodramatic accompaniments are liable to impair the clearness of the lecture, thereby defeating its own end. Lecture and music should, therefore, be alternated, not combined, in the documentary film. This cannot be too often or too vigorously impressed on film manufacturers, who will not fail to appreciate the advice, as it is also in the interessts of economy. The omission of the musical accompaniment to the spoken word means a saving of money, and the increased comprehensibility of the film will also mean an increase of the manufacturer's profit.
