Trained as professional photographer, and in 1897 entered the Kinematograph industry, using machines by Lumiere, Paul, Wrench and others, and touring a show with his brother, W. N. Blake. Blake was born in 1871, educated at Bedford, and is recognised by his fellows as the head of the Industry in Bedfordshire and neighbouring counties. He is managing director of Blake Bros. Theatres, Ltd., which controls the Empire, Bedford, and the Picturedrome, Hitchin, and also of the Bedford Palace, Ltd. ; also managing director of the Hitchin Playhouse. Joining the Industry in 1897 and touring the country with Blake Bros., animated photographs, he has been actively connected with the camera and exhibiting side of it for thirty years. He took some of the earliest animated photographs ever made in England, and his work as a professional photographer has been e.xhibited and medalled at the leading exhibitions all over the kingdom. It was through his instrumentality that the exhibitors of Bedfordshire organised themselves into a sub-branch of the C.E.A. and later developed into the Southern Midlands branch. The first three years he was chairman and, after acting as Bedfordshire representative on the Home Counties' branch executive, he is now the Southern Midlands representative on the General Council of the C.E.A., and was President of the Association, 1926-27. Organiser of the Kinema Veterans and President 1928-9. L. Blattner. Born 18S4, and came to this country in 1897 with Gustav Mellin. In 1900 he became associated with local theatrical ventures in the Liverpool district . Successively became assistant at Winter Gardens, New Brighton ; manager of the Winter Gardens, Bootle ; general manager of the Adeler and Sutton circuit, Great Britain ; lessee of Apollo Theatre, Bootle ; Gaiety, New Brighton ; and Scala Theatre, Seacombe ; general manager of Peter Street Picture House, Manchester. In 1920 negotiated with Miss Horniman the purchase of Manchester's Repertory Theatre, The Gaiety. Turned same into a public company, and remained in general management. In 1924 floated Keycities, Ltd., which took over Gaiety from the Gaiety Cinema (Manchester), Ltd. Managing Director, Ludwig Blattner Picture Corporation, Ltd. Appointed Manager of the Stadium Film G.m.b.H., 1927. Preliminary work in connection with the foundation of the German Sound Films Syndicate. Appointed General Secretary of the Tonbild-Syndikat A.G.
