There are no 16mm. exhibitors. There are about n circuits controlling from 3 to 12 kinemas. The Rank organisation in July acquired a third interest in the Tuschinski and Royal circuits which amalgamated to form the Maaschappij-N.V. Tuschinski circuit controlling about 16 theatres. Admissions (1946) 88,700,000. Average seat prices range from FL. 0.40 to FL. 1.25 Entertainment tax : 20 per cent. Foreign films shown (1946), U.S.A. 55 > Great Britain 20 ; France 17. The industry is organised in Nederlandsche Bioscoop Bond. There are two censorship boards, the Government Centrale Commissie voor de Filmkeuring for the whole country and a Catholic board which functions for the Catholic Provinces Brabant and Limburg, where each film must be passed by both censorship organisations. Cost : 6 cents per metre. Provisional regulations covering the import of foreign films were made last year. From 29 August, 1947, a maximum of 32 U.S.A. and 24 non-American pictures is allowed. Production. No studios are functioning at present, but the Cinetone Studios in Amsterdam have been re-equipped. There are two small documentary studios. Only one feature — documentary " Walris in Zicht " ("A Whale in Sight") was made in 1947. The production by the Rank organisation of shorts is making progress and there is some 1 6mm. production of documentary and educational subjects.
