Kinemas : 179 Winter kinemas which open for seven months a year and 223 Summer kinemas open for five months. Annual Admissions : 100,000,000. Entertainment tax is between 44 — 46 per cent. There are seven circuits, two of which own 6 out of the 11 kinemas in Athens and have agreements with U.S.A. producers. There are four production units, each has laboratory facilities. Organisations : — Syndicate of Film Importers and Distributors. The Association of Small Cinema Proprietors (P.E.K.). The Cinematograph Employees' Union. HUNGARY HPHE Hungarian film industry was nationalised in 1948, and is controlled by three Government enterprises : Hungarian Film Trade N.E. (Magyar Filmforgalmi N.V.) ; Hungarian FilmProduction N.E. (Magyar Filmgyarto N.V.) ; and Cinematographic N.E. (Mozgokepiizemi N.V.). Their activities are co-ordinated and directed by the National Film-Office. Two studios, two laboratories, a distributing organisation, about 400 35 mm. and 400 substandard theatres thus come within the government monopoly. Export-import business is handled by Hungarian Filmtrade N.E. As the result of nationalisation Hungary's imports, formerly between 180-200 films per year, have been reduced to 130-140 pictures. Distribution and exhibition are handled mainly by the Cinematographic N.E., but 105 kinemas still remain in private hands. Technical development and maintenance of equipment is controlled by the Radio and Film Technical N.E. which is allied to the three national organisations.
