Dieser sehr schône Film ehrt die Franzôsiche Filmproduktion. Er schildert das Leben franzôsischer Offiziere als Kriegsgefangene in Deutschland, zuerst in einem Lager, dann in einer Festung mit ebensoviel Kunst wie binreissender Dramatik. Den Film zeiehnet wahrheitsgemàsse und richtige Reobacbtung der Lagertypen aus, ein lebendiger Dialog voll von klugen Eindriicken von diesem Krieg, der fur aile obne Unterschied ein Unglùci ist. Dieser Film ist voll lebendiger und mitreissender Scenen. Die Deutschen, die darin auftreten, sind mit klugem Takt gescbildert. Die Arbeit des Régisseurs Jean Renoir, der sowohl. Kùnstler wie Mensch mit Herz ist, und seines Mitarbciters Charles Spaak, der ihm das Ruch geschrieben bat, ist ohne Riickhalt zu loben. Aile Darsteller spielen hervorragend : Pierre Fresnay, Jean Gabin, Dita Parlo, die gliinzend eine deutscbe Biiuerin spielt, und Eric von Stroheim, der den Festungskommandanten darstellt. LA DAME DE PIQUE Régisseur : Fédor Ozep. Darsteller : Pierre Bianchar, André Luguet, Madeleine Ozeray, Marguerite Moreno, Palau, Abel Jacquin, Roger Legris. Hersteller : General Produktion. Ein wirklich auf das Bild gestellter, hochkiinstlerischer Film nacb einer Novelle von Puschkin, die einen jungen hervorragenden russischen Offizieren Petersburg um 1835 schildert, den seine Spielleidenschaft verriickt macht und entehlrt. Zu der ebendurchpulsten, fantastischen Handlung kommen herrliche Dekorationen, die ohne Geschmaksfehler und bis ins Kleinste russisch sind. Die Handlung wird hervorragend entwickelt und ist eindrucksvoll und dramatisch. Die Darstellung ist gliinzend mit Pierre Bianchar, der seinen romantischen Helden mit gluhender Dramatik spielt und der so aussiebt, wie wir uns einen Spieler eben vorstellen, mit Marguerite Moréno, die im Gegensatz zu ihren ùblichen Darstellungen mit Kraft und Blut die Rolle der Pique Dame verkôrpert, und mit Madeleine Ozeray, die frisch und reizend ist. Ferner mit Abel Jaquin, Palau und André Luguet. TROÏKA SUR LA PISTE BLANCHE Régisseur : Jean Dréville. Darsteller : Vanel, Janv Holt, Jean Murât. Hersteller : C.F.C. Urauffiihrung : ara 18 juni 1937 im Madeleine Cinéma. Jean Dréville hat mit viel Sorgfalt und Schmiss in interessanten Dekorationen dièse romantische Geschichte eines Waffenschmuggel und einer ungliicklichen Ehe gedreht. Der Film spielt in einem tief im Schnee Arersunkenen Schloss in Polen. Cast : Pierre Fresnay, Jean Gabin, Erich von Stroheim, Carette, Dalio, Dita Parlo. Production : Réalisations d'Art Cinématographique. First Run : At the Marivaux Cinéma, from June 15th 1937. This outstanding films is one of the best achievements, not only of the French but of the world cinéma. It brings to the screen the lives of French oflicers, prisoners in Germany, during the Great War, firstly in a concentration camp, later in a well guarded fortress. The characters are living and the players are ail excellently cast: Jean Gabin gives an outstanding performance in the rôle of Maréchal, a mechanic, risen to the rank of Lieutenant; Pierre Fresnay as the aristocrat French officer, de Roeldieu, and Erich von Stroheim as the German officer, Von Rauffenstein, enter completelv into their alloted roies. Dita Parlo plays the part of a German peasant war widow, to perfection, and Dalio, as the Jewish officer in the French army, is also worthy of mention. The dialogue — which is alternalively in French, German and English — shows a deep understanding of human nature and is at ail times full of interest. LA DAME DE PIQUE (The Queen of Spades) Director : Fédor Ozep. Cast : Pierre Bianchar, André Luguet, Madeleine Ozeray, Marguerite Moréno, Palau, Abel Jacquin, Roger Legris. Production : General Production. This film, directed by Fédor Ozep, is the adaptation of Pouchkine's novel of the same name. Pierre Bianchar is excellently cast as the brilliant young Russian officer, in Petersbourg in 1835, whose passion for gambling brings him dishonour, and eventually drives him mad. Marguerite Moréno gives a fine portrayal of the old lady, known as the «Queen of Spades», because of a secret she is said to possess and which assures success at cards. Madeleine Ozeray is delightful as the young girl who supplies the love interest. Production and technical work are good and the artistic photography and music deserve spécial mention. TROÏKA SUR LA PISTE BLANCHE (Troïka, on the White Track) Director : Jean Dréville. Cast : Charles Vanel, Jany Hoit, J. Murât. Production : C. F. C. First Run : Madeleine Cinéma, June 18th, 1937. Directed by Jean Dréville, this is a war smuggling and maternai love draina, the action of which is set in Poland. Charles Vanel is cast as an adventurer, Steinberg, whose wife, Jany Holt, discover that the man she was forced to marry is a trafficker in arms. To buy her silence he causes their son to be taken from her, with the promise that if she aids him in his unsavoury work, her son will be returned to her. Jean Murât is an aviator who saves the situation by killing Steinberg after a chase across the «White Track» in Troikas. This film contains severai good outdoor scènes in the snow. and luxurioux settings of the interior of an old Polish castle. LA GRANDE ILLUSION Director : Jean Renoir. Esta magnifica pelicula que honra la producciôn francesa evoca con arte y emociôn la vida de oficiales franceses prisioneros de guerra en Alemania, en un campo, y luego en una fortaleza. Se nota mucha verdad y observacion, asi como tipos muy acertados, un dialogo lleno de vida y rico en impresiones sobre la guerra, el corazôn, el dolor igual para todos, escenas de grande animaciôn, personajes de alemanes presentados con tacto é inteligencia. El trabajo de Jean Renoir, realizador, en colaboraciôn con Charles Spaak, autor del escenario y dialoguista, es de aîabar por todos conceptos. Todos los interprètes ban desempenado sus papeles con una perfecta sensibilidad. LA DAME DE PIQUE Director : Fédor Ozep. Aqui va la adaptaciôn, en une pelicula muy artistica, de la novela de Pouchkine, que nos muestra en la Rusia de 1835, de que modo un joven oficial cae al crimen por su pasiôn al juego. Un ambiente srnnamente evocador, ha sido creado con decorados autenticamente rusos. La accion crece interés é intensidad dramâtica. Los artistas muy bien en sus respectives papeles, Pierre Bianchar, el jugador, Marguerite Moréno que nos muestra un aspecto muy nuevo de sus dotes, la graciosa Madeleine Ozeray, Abel Jacquin, Palau y André Luguet. Jean Dréville ha realizado con mucho cuidado y elegancia, en lujuosos decorados, esta historia romanesca de trâfico de armas y de casamiento desdichado. En castillo en Polonia, encerrado por las nieves. Personajes: un aventurero, su mujer quién ignora el trâfico de su esposo, un aviador que la salvarâ de deshonor matando a Steinberg después de una carrera en troïka. Charles Vanel ha campado un sorprendente aventurero. Jany Holt es una artista de rostro original y al juego inteligente. Movimiento, magniiicas escenas de nieves, y un perseguimiento en troïka, tradato con una belleza alucinadora.
