No. 1 Fifty-fourth Street Studio Is " Up-to-theMinute " AMONG the many studios in Greater New York there are none more fully equipped for efficient work in" filming pictures than the Fifty-fourth Street studio, 517 West Fifty-fourth street, New York City. It is " up-to-the-minute " in every detail and affords the producer the utmost in lighting, equipment and convenience in handling the most pretentious scene. THE lighting equipment consists of nine overhead and five side bank Cooper Hewitt lights, two broadside Wohl lights, five double Kleigl lights, two Wohl duplex overheads and six Bogers. The stages are spacious and suitable for accommodating any size scene. A carpenter shop, fully equipped, is adjoining, and props or other necessities may be turned out expediently. The dressing rooms are well fitted and have hot and cold running water. There are also shower-baths. AMONG the well-known companies which have used this studio are the Famous Players, the Frohman Amusement Company, Fox and Brenon-Selznick. The studio is now being used by the Douglas Fairbanks Motion Picture Company. McLaughlin and Stern, 15 William street, New York, have the rental of this studio. Hedwig Laboratories Located in Heart of Film District THE Hedwig Laboratories, Inc., is located in the heart of the New York film district, on the fourth floor of the Godfrey Building, completed a little over a year ago. The building is modern and fireproof in every sense of the word. The company is progressing rapidly since first offering its services to the film industry. Mr. Hedwig, the vice-president of the corporation, was formerly laboratory manager for Universal, Rex and Lubin. THE entire laboratory is kept extremely clean, being painted white throughout. Every morning the laboratories are washed down or cleaned with vacuum cleaners. The employees are furnished with clean white uniforms every morning. There is a spacious office before the laboratory is reached. Next to the office is the assembling room, which measures 30 feet each way. Adjoining this room there has been installed a Duplex Cleanser, for cleansing and renovating of film. THE projecting room, which is of ample size, contains a Simplex projector. Films developed at the plant are screened and examined there. Titles are also printed, photographed and developed at this laboratory ; an up-to-date press is part of the equipment of this room along with Cooper-Hewitt lights and a Pitman camera. THE developing and wash room comes next. Here Corcoran tanks are used and two filtering systems have been installed at a great expense to the company. The drying room is large, capable of drying 15,000 feet of film every half hour. A special electrical arrangement has been installed whereby film can be dried in ten minutes. An equipment for ventilating and purifying the air is in use. PRINTING the film is done on Duplex printers, forating machines, furnished by the Duplex pany and by Bell and Howell, complete the equipir The laboratory is capable of turning out 400,00c week, working 14 hours a day. perim THE officers of the company are as follows : C.
