HEARD IN THE LOBBIES The St. Louis Sunday Globe Democrat recently printed the pictures and short sketches of ten prominent motion picture stars who claim St. Louis as their home. The players featured were: King Baggot, Imp; Edwin August, Universal; Naomi Childers and Anne Shaefer, Vitagraph; Kathleen Ray, Biograph; G. M. Anderson, Essanay; Rosemary Theby, Lubin; J. J. Franz, Edith Sterling and Walter Rodgers, Frontier. The Columbia Theatre, St. Louis, which closed its regular vaudeville bill and has been running a picture program, announces a week's run of Hepworth's Old Curiosity Shop, at fifteen and twenty-iive cents admission. The Aubert Airdonie at .\ubert and Easton avenues, St. Louis, opened for summer business on May 31. The Sociological Feature Film, "The Drug Terror," made such a hit at the Hippodrome, St. Louis, that it was booked for a second week's run. Rosemary Theby, a St. Louis girl, played the lead in the feature. -After a month of non-fruitful effort, Messrs. Kelly and Davis, who went to Flobart, Okla., from Okl.ilioma City to open the Queen motion picture house, have closed the doors of the theatre, hung crepe on them and returned to Oklahoma City. Two other motion picture houses, with better locations, preveiited the success of the new venture. Hobart is a city of 5000 population in western Oklahoma. A company was refused a permit to build a picture house at 21st and Wells Streets, Milwaukee, Wis., the past week because they had not secured the consent of two-thirds of the property owners, as provided by the building ordinance, which provides: It shall not be lawful for any person to locate, build, construct or keep in any block a picture showhouse if two-thirds of the total number of tjui'dings on both sides of the street are devoted exclusively to residential purposes, unless two-thirds of the total number of property owners on both sides of the street shall give their written consent and the same be filed with the inspector of buildings before application for permit be made. The word "street" is hereby intended to also include alley. The Crystal Theatre, at Hartford, Wisconsin, has been purchased by C. W. Mertes and in the future will be known as the Orpheum.
