"Closed Gates," a one-reel psychological drama by Lois Weber, is being produced by Mr. and Mrs. Phillips Smalley, co-directors of the Universal Rex brand pictures. This is the seventh picture in five weeks worked by the Smalleys.
-■\n echo of the Mexican war situation is graphically told in the "Arms and the Gringo," by Miss Anna Tuppen Wilkes, being produced by W. C. Cabanne, at the Reliance and Majestic Hollywood studios. The scenes of the "Arms and the Gringo" take place along the Mexican border. Dorothy Gish, Wallace Reid and Fred A. Kelsey are featured.
L. C. Borah has purchased the New Electric moving picture theatre at Patterson, La., and has leased the Arcade. He will combine ihe two houses and put on a larger show.
Monroe, La., business men are backing a new airdome for that city. Announcement of the formation of the company will be made in a few days.
"Sparrows of the Circus," by the American Company, lends a peep behind the scenes of
a circus. Vivian Rich plays opposite Reaves Eagan. The story is well told and presents to the public a new phase of life of mankind.
"Jim" is the visualization of a beautiful poem in two reels produced by Thos. Ricketts, of the -American Film Manufacturing Company studios, which is to be released Monday, June 15.
Ethel Grandin is appearing, for the first lime in her life, in a role that compels her to dress and act as a boy. And more tiian that she has put on a fake mustache, wears up-to-date clothes and acts just like a young society sport. It is a one-reel comedy-drama, "Papa's Darling" which is now in the course of production at the Imp studio by director Ray .Smallwood. William Shay is jilaying the lead male role in the production.
Kdde Dillon, comedy director at the Reliance and Majestic studios in Hollywood, has started to produce "The Deceiver," a farce comedy by Anita Loos, the youngest scenario writer in the country. Aside from directing the production. Dillon also plays the lead.
