Jr Hollywood Continued Ti< It M Und Alvarado Signed Alan Crosland has signed Don Alvarado for the leading male role in "The Scarlet Woman, " which the director is making at present with Lya de Putti as the star. This is a picturization of Bess Meredyth's story of the Russian "revolution. Crosland selected Alvarado without hesitancy for the role after seeing "Drums of Love," in which the actor scored emphatically. Tay Garnett Entertains Tay Garnett, DeMille's new director, entertained a number of trade paper and newspaper representatives on the "Celebrity" set last Wednesday, where luncheon was served, with Lina Basquette as hostess. It was the final day of shooting of Garnett 's first picture for Pathe. Charley Grapewin Charley Grapewin, still basking in fame acquired by his well remembered characterization in "The Awakening of Mr. Pipp," has made a motion picture adaptation of the celebrated farce. With the advent of talking pictures, it is not unlikely that Grapewin will himself appear in the title role of his famous stage play. Meantime, Grapewin is negotiating the sale of his original story "Muddy Waters," recently completed. At Hal Roach's Sieved for Charley Chase's supporting cast in his next Hal Roach comedy are: Ed Kennedy, Ruby Blaine, Marion Byron and Gordon Elliott. They are working; under the direction' of Hal Yates. . . . Robert F. McGowan is supervising a new "Our Gang" comedy, which Anthony Mack is directing:. . . ." "Do Gentlemen Snore" is the choice title designated for the latest Roach comedy. Included in the cast of this number are Max Davidson, Dorothy Coburn, Spec O'Donnell, Gene Morgan and May Wallace. Educational Players Comedians and comediennes who will appear in the 26 Cameo comedies on Educational's new program have been sig;ned by Educational. Dix in Injun Role Richard Dix is soon to play an Indian in the Paramount production, "Redskin," the next picture on his schedule.
