(Average, $6,300) WHN Ready in Fall With 50,000 Watts WHN will have its 50,000-watt transmitter in operation by the Fall, it was disclosed yesterday. The transmitter is under construction at East Rutherford, N. J. WHN is owned by Loew's Inc. The plant will consist of a twostory building to house transmitting apparatus and two self-supporting antennas, each 400 feet high with a 680foot catwalk to the towers. The building will measure 60 by 60 feet. There also will be an auxiliary studio capable of housing an orchestra. The house will be air-conditioned. In the event of failure of the 50,000-watt transmitter during operations, an automatic switch will immediately throw a 5,000-watt auxiliary transmitter on the air. Pittsburgh Gain from Wage Rise Is Seen Pittsburgh, May 13.— Theatres, night clubs, parks and other types of entertainment anticipate a record Summer. More than §17,000,000 in monthly payrolls will be distributed by the steel industry alone, as a result of wage increases recently put into effect. Total monthly payrolls for all citv industries exceed §34,000,000, as compared with §26,000,000 in the average month of 1929.
