of all companies. The Argentine is the lone exception to this increase, having registered a gain of only 25 per cent. Cohen said.
It is not unusual to find native exhibitors who have increased their business by 100 per cent in one year, and 1,000 per cent in the last four or five years, Cohen asserted. No letdown has been experienced in South America since the conclusion of the war, except for temporary recessions in Panama and Puerto Rico, he said.
Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela have all experienced a steady and constant climb in business, Cohen declared. American films have taken a hold in South America without opposition from Europe, he pointed but.
Warners has lined Up theatres for that territory, Cohen said, and hopes within the next three years to have theatres in all major cities, some 15 situations. Most of these will be either purchased or rented rather than built, he said. Warners plans to operate with native partners, but will maintain operational control.
Warner offices are being opened in Baranquilla and Medellin, Colombia, Cohen said ; the main office in Cali is being shifted to Bogota. Offices will also be established in Quito and Guayaquil, Ecuador, where the company is now operating through an agent, he said. ■

and establishes a "close tri-partite working arrangement," Ament said yesterday, adding that the tie-up in no wise affects any of the partners' individuality. Ament likened the arrangement to the recently dissolved newsreel pool among the five American companies in Europe. He said the three companies will cooperate in the newsreel field "as closely as if we were all one unit."
William Murray, RKO-Pathe's European manager, served as the company's liaison in affecting the cooperative arrangement, Ament said. Murray left here three weeks ago for London where he negotiated with Pathe there. At present Murray is enroute to Paris, where he will maintain permanent, headquarters.
Combined in Past
The three companies were originally all part of the first newsreel company established by Pathe Freres (Pathe Brothers), but have for many years been operating as separate and individual units. The recently-established cooperative arrangement, Ament said, does not amount to a remerging of the companies, but is purely a pooling of resources in the gathering of news.
