The executive committee also requested Myers to report on whether the amicus curiae brief which Allied intends to file in the Supreme Court m the industry anti-trust case, should be presented in the name of Allied alone or should include other independent exhibitor organizations. He was also asked to make recommendations on the contents of the brief. The meeting today formally approved applications of two new groups for membership in National Allied. They are the Allied Rocky Mountain Independent Theatres, with headquarters in Denver, and the Allied Theatre Owners of the Gulf States, with headquarters in New Orleans. Plans for a "grass roots campaign" for complete repeal of the 20 per cent admissions tax were ratified at the meeting, which directed exhibitor committees to be set up immediately to pressure home-coming legislators. No decision was reached, however, as to whether an Allied spokesman would appear before the House Ways and Means Committee to urge repeal, and Myers said that would depend on "when and if" the House unit holds further hearings. General plans for the December national convention in Milwaukee were also approved at the meeting, and William Ainsworth was formally selected as chairman. (Continued from page 1) forthcoming Charles (Buddy) Rogers-Ralph Cohn production of "Sleep My Love," starring Claudette Colbert, Robert Cummings and Don Ameche. Dembow will leave Hollywood Thursday for a swing around the country to contact United Artists' branch managers, salesmen and exhibitors on the picture. He is presently huddling with Paul N. Lazarus Jr., UA advertising-publicity head an-1 Joseph Curtis of Weiss and Geller on the national advertising and exploitation campaign planned for the picture. Now," with Abbott and Costello in person, gave the Roxy $22,000 and the top money has continued to pour in since, indicating $122,000 for the week. At the Music Hall, "Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer," in an unusual show of strength, is headed for a first week's gross of $150,000; the film, accompanied by a stage presentation, drew $91,000 Thursday through Sunday. A holdover favorite is "The Hucksters" at the Capitol where the stage show includes Tony and Sally De Marco, Ted Straeter and Charles Trenet. An estimated $94,000 is in view for the second week; the show concluded its initial week with $114,000, an increase of $10,000 over early estimates. "Brute Force," at the Criterion, is likely to wind up a second week with $35,000, which is normally good business, but an incredible drop under the first week's $62,000. An estimated $60,000 is apparent for the third week of "Perils of Pauline,"* with Phil Spitalny's orchestra, at the Paramount, which is good enough ; the show holds for a fourth week, to be followed by "Welcome Stranger" on Aug. 6. "Cry Wolf," with Freddie Martin's orchestra, at the Strand, is headed for a sound $45,000 for a second week, while at the Hollywood, "Possessed" is doing moderately with $13,500 figured Tor a ninth week. "Gunfighters" bowed in at the Victoria with fairly successful results, the first week's business being estimated at $17,000. "Wyoming," at the Globe, encountered some difficulties, returns for the first week being put at $11,500; it will continue. A mild $18,000 is apparent for the second week of "They Won't Believe Me," at the Palace. "Best Years of Our Lives" is fair enough with $18,000 indicated for a 36th week at the Astor. "Apache Rose" and "Sioux City Sue" faltered at the Rialto where a week's run brought $5,000; they were succeeded yesterday by "The Key Witness." "Slave Girl" is sluggish in its second week at two spots, the Winter Garden, where a $13,000 gross is likely, and at the Park which looks for $4,000. "Dillinger" and "Mutiny in Big House" open at the Gotham today, replacing "Congorilla" and "Borneo," the latter combination having brought $6,500 on Saturday through yesterday, three days short of a third week. Two United Artists reissues, "Lady of Burlesque" and "The Great John L," will move into the Broadway on Friday. "Copacabana" probably will wind up its third and final week at that house with a poor $7,000 MAGNIFICENT Fireproof 7-Story Building in Jersey City; ideal for studio, movies, films, warehouse, etc. Large cathedral windows. 126,000 square feet and land adjoining.
