Cincinnati Exhibs Ask Amusement Tax Slice
cTncInNATI— The Finance Conimittee of City Council is considering a request by operators of seven down¬ town theatres that the city’s three per cent amusement tax be rescinded. At a hearing, operators said attendance had dropped “drastically” during re¬ cent months, and was “the worst in history.”
The situation was credited to stiffen¬ ing competition from TV movies, the cool summer, and much tougher com¬ petition from the Cincinnati Redlegs, whose efforts to win the National League pennant attracted record crowds to Crosley Field. Thomas Coyne, city treasurer, said killing the tax would lop off an estimated $68,000 annually from city revenue.
