Chicago Theatremen Set November "Jubilee" Plans
CHICAGO — November will be observed as Golden Jubilee Month in all theatres here as the result of plans formulated last fortnight at a meeting of exhibitor repre¬ sentatives and film company publicists. The objective of the 30-day promotion is to stimulate theatre attendance during Hollywood's 50th anniversary.
Discussion also covered a possible oneday visit on Oct. 29 of the Hollywood Golden Jubilee troupe of stars.
In attendance at the meeting, set up by Edward Seguin, director of advertising and publicity for Balaban and Katz, were theatremen Herb Wheller, Nate Platt, Lou Abramson, Larry Stein, David Arlen, Hal Perlman, and Waldo Bail. Film publicists Wally Heim, Frank Casey, E. G. Fitzgibbon, Louis Orlove, and William Brooker also were present.
Film Distributors launched a saturation in this area for “Value for Money” and “Triple Deception.” . . . Carl Green has reopened the Cove, Covington, Ky., on a weekend basis. . . . Wally Allen, Chakeres Circuit booker, was convalescing from minor surgery. ... Joe McKnight, former Paramount salesman, is now with the Campbell House, Lexington, Ky. . . . Patricia Pugh, Paramount contract department, was married to Stephen Ottman. . . . Rita Pugh, former Universal clerk, gave birth to a boy. . . . Ben Cohen, president. Holiday Amusements, was in a hospital for surgery. . . . Paul Holland, manager, Para¬ mount, Ashland, Ky., and long associated with the industry, died.

The board of directors of the Robins Amusement Company, Warren, Ohio, at a special meeting elected Leon Enken, Jr., as president and treasurer, to succeed the late
Joe Robins. Enken was formerly vice-presi¬ dent. The board authorized an expenditure of $75,000 for remodeling the 1450-seat Robins, Warren, and the Robins Theatre Building. . . . Louis Sher and Edward Shulman, who operate the Heights Art, were in from their respective home bases. . . . Allied Artists announced one of the most extensive saturation bookings ever held in this terri¬ tory. Starting Oct. 24, “Portland Expose,” dualed with “Death in Small Doses,” will play 20 first run key situations on or about the same date. Following will be a saturation second run booking. . . . Ted Levy, Buena Vista district manager, brought back from the company’s recent west coast convention a plaque showing that his district, comprising the Cleveland and Detroit exchanges, won second place in the company’s Million Dollar Collection Drive. . . . Rudy Norton, Imperial branch manager, was negotiating with top circuit officials for bookings on “Noah’s Ark."

Karl Malden, star of Warners’ “No Sleep Till Dawn,” sat in with local, exhibitors at a showing of the film in the screening room of the Palace. When all seats at the 3037-seat Albee were sold a week before the closed circuit telecast of the Robinson-Basillo mid¬ dleweight fight, arrangements were made to telecast the fight in Palace also. . . .
