Everyone rushes by cable car to the safety of the observatory. The cloud, which is really a monstrous crawling eye, follows. Tucker sends an S.O.S. for a plane to drop incendiary bombs to destroy the crawling eye of the cloud. X-Ray: All right, so you don’t believe it. Neverheless this science fiction, mountain climbing, mind reading meller has been given okay production and is nicely enacted. There is considerable suspense, even horror, and the film should do okay where fare of this type is popular. This has a screenplay by Jimmy Sangster. Photography and technical effects are on the better side. Ad Lines: “The Science Fiction Shock Show Of The Year”; “A Nightmare Of Ter¬ ror.” A Question Of Adultery drama NTA 84m (English-made) Estimate: Has exploitation possibilities. Cast: Julie London, Anthony Steel, Basil Sydney, Donald Houston, Anton Diffring, Andrew Cruickshank, Conrad Phillips, Kynaston Reeves, John Fabian, Rodney Burke. Produced by Raymond Stross; directed by Don Chaffey. Story: Anthony Steel is madly jealous of his wife, Julie London, former American cabaret singer. Due to an automobile acci¬ dent, she loses her unborn child, and he becomes sterile. His father, Basil Sydney, who never approved of the marriage, agam tries to break it up, but London refuses. Believing that a child will hold the marriage together, London suggests artificial insemina¬ tion to Steel, who finally agrees to accompany her to a clinic in Switzerland for the treat¬ ment. However, when she is again pregnant, Steel finds it impossible to reconcile himself to the situation and leaves her. Prompted by his father, Steel sues for divorce, accusing London of adultery. She contests the divorce, and the trial concerns itself with whether or not artificial insemination is a question of adultery. The jury is unable to reach a verdict and the Judge considers a re-trial. Steel realizes he loves London and asks that the case be withdrawn. X-Ray: Although there is nothing shown here than can be remotely termed objection¬ able in any form, the subject matter and the dialogue concerning artificial insemination, pregnancy, etc. put the film in the adult, if not sensational, category. Due to this, the film does have exploitation possibilities. Other¬ wise, it is of average program, calibre, an interesting drama told in flashback fashion. Performances are all capable, as are produc¬ tion, direction, and photography. The screen¬ play is by Apne Edwards and Dennis Free¬ man. The film has been placed on the ‘Condemned” list by the National Legion of Decency.
