Popcorn Processors, Institute Vote Merger The Popcorn Institute and the Popcorn Processors Association have voted to merge into one group, the Popcorn Institute. The move was made at a recent meeting in Chi¬ cago. Popcorn Institute executive directoi' William E. Smith stated that “the merger will strengthen the cooperative efforts of the popcorn industry and will permit a much greater emphasis on vitally needed promo¬ tional activities. “Formerly,” Smith explained, “the Popcorn Processors Association fulfilled almost all of the functions of an industry trade association, including product development, and the dis¬ tribution of needed industry information to members. The Institute was originally formed to act as the promotional arm of the industry. The merger will eliminate the possibility of duplication of effort as well as permit the focusing of greater attention on the industry’s prime goal, the sale of more popcorn.
