EX160 MOTION PICTURE EXHIBITOR September 23, 1959 COMPANY ASSISTS COLUMBIA will unleash a herculean pro¬ motion and selling campaign on “The War¬ rior and The Slave Girl”, it was announced recently by Jonas Rosenfield, Jr., executive in charge of advertising and publicity. A special unit headed by Steve Edwards is coordinating the campaign. The heaviest concentration of the promotion barrage will be focused on the local-level, with recordbreaking budgets set for individual cities and whole territories. Highlight of the campaign will be a touring float, visiting cities of all sizes in advance of local playdates. Other bally will include live animal stunts, gladia¬ tor contests and Roman feasts, all conducted locally on a national basis. The TV and radio campaigns will feature the largest number of spots for any film ever released by Columbia. Newspaper advertising will in¬ clude heavy use of color and full-page spreads with a wide variety of different ads to be prepared to cover all situations. A fullcolor tabloid herald will be used as a mass giveaway; and a “Warrior and The Slave Girl” comic book is being prepared. MGM announced that final plans for the re¬ lease of “Ben-Hur” recordings have been set and will include three major discs. Accord¬ ing to Arnold Maxim, New York head of MGM Records, a delux album of the com¬ plete score will be recorded in hi-fi as well as stereophonic reproduction and elaborately presented in album form. They are still kidding me about it. Our local county fair opens with a parade through town to the fairgrounds. So we fixed up our car by putting a false backing be¬ hind the windows, rear glass and windshield and filled the space with popcorn so that the car gave the appearance of being filled with popcorn. Vision to drive was through a two and one half inch mailing tube to the windshield and through the left quarter 16. Ideal Nurse Contest . EX141 17. Verily, There Was Room At The Top . EX153 18. This got more comment than anything in the parade and it was fun to peek out through the crack and see folks pointing, smiling, and taking pictures and calling at¬ tention to it. This possibly did not sell a single ticket; but it was the talk of the town and was something that stirred up more talk than what they had seen the night before on television. If you think it was a big job to get it ready, you should have been around to help clean it out. About then we decided it was not as clever as it had seemed at first.
