Popcorn Institute Maps Biggest Year Members of the Popcorn Institute, at a Jan. meeting in Chicago, approved plans for the most concerted public relations and pro¬ motional program in the history of the pop¬ corn industry. Executive Director William E. Smith stated that 1960 promotion on behalf of popcorn would eclipse even that which was accom¬ plished in 1959, the industry’s most active and fruitful year to date. Smith Solid “The popcorn industry is aware that, in the face of the huge merchandising and advertising budgets allocated to food products in today’s competitive marketplace, popcorn will have to continue to be brought forcibly and consistently to the attention of the consumer.” “Along with stepped-up consumer articles in the nation’s newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, the 1960 Popcorn In¬ stitute program will see greatly increased emphasis on the merchandising of the prod¬ uct at the retail levels,” Smith concluded.
