Electromode Announces $250,000 Expansion Electromode Division of Commercial Con¬ trols Corporation has announced a $250,000 expansion program for 1960 which will in¬ crease the electric heater manufacturer’s production potential by 35 per cent. Robert E. Pequignot, vice-president and general manager of Electromode, said the major part of the expansion will be embodied in a new centralized packaging and ware¬ house building which will add almost 20,000 square feet of space to the present 80,000square-foot plant. Construction of the two -level concrete, steel and cinder block building is expected to be completed in June, Pequignot said. Its completion will make realignment and enlargements of assembly lines possible in the main building, Pequignot said, leading to the potential 35 per cent production in¬ crease. Electromode, which marked its 30th an¬ niversary in 1959, manufactures more than 300 models of electric heaters for home, farm, and industry. Watkins Strathmore's two new games, MerryGo-Round and Winner Spinner, can serve as excellent tie-ins with MGM's Tom and Jerry Cartoons. The new game set retails for one dollar, and can be featured at kiddie matinees. Heyer-Shultz, Inc. Changes Price, Policy The Heyer-Shultz company announced that all models of its Aluminized, High Efficiency Reflector have been reduced, as has the guarantee period. The company will now guarantee this reflector for one year, it was said. “Our experience with the aluminized re¬ flective finish during the past seven years has indicated that, under conditions generally prevailing in the average projection booth, this item will not stand up consistently for a five year guarantee period. Therefore, it is our contention that a reduced price and guarantee period is in order. Experience has shown us that this item averages a useful life of 21/2 years,” a company spokesman said. “Because of this record, we are able to offer a flat one year guarantee.” In addition to these changes, the company is bringing back its Optical Alignment Test Plates. The H-S Optical Alignment Test Plates are made of stainless steel, 6 feet long x 34mm wide x .050 inches thick. They are easily bent to fit the film track of all projection heads, it is claimed. The H-S Aluminum Reflector Cleaner will also be marketed by the company. Copies of the price and specifications sheets are avail¬ able. Seven Sensible Steps For Drive-In Safety The following seven steps toward better drive-in safety were compiled by Bruno Kern of the Eastern Management Cor¬ poration. Eastern theatres have com¬ mendable safety records. Reason: seven sensible steps. 1. Fence around playground merry-go-round prevents people from boarding a moving piece of equipment. Only safety type play¬ ground equipment is used. 2. Wide entrance and exit roads well illumi¬ nated by pylon and mushroom lighting, expedites handling of traffic. Box offices are located well off the entrance highways, gets traffic onto theatre property as quickly as possible. All traffic roads are one way. 3. All theatres are equipped with 100' poles which provide bright illumination during intermissions and traffic breaks and sub¬ dued lighting during operation. 4. Local police officers, hired by the theatres, control traffic at all times. Special atten¬ tion is directed in the vicinity of the concession stand during intermissions. 5. Exit and entrance traffic is patrolled at all times, both on foot and by motor ve¬ hicle. Traffic exits are floodlighted at highway egress. 6. Matrons are stationed at playground and amusement areas during pre-show time to assist children and to generally oversee safe operation of equipment in these areas. 7. All personnel are trained under the super¬ vision of our district manager, James L. Ellis. No person is allowed to work with¬ out first having served as an assistant to an experienced person.
